I think there is still a small chance that I have a mild case of Asperger's or PDD-NOS. My last psychologist ruled out Aspeger's on the basis that I claimed to not have the problems I currently have when I was a child, but you can read my posts and see where people come from when they tell me I could be an aspie.

You seem spectrumish to me. The DSM-IV definition of Asperger's is very narrow (I don't fit into it, and I'm dxed Aspie). PDD-NOS is kind of a catch-all. I voted maybe, because internet discussions aren't really enough to make such a judgment.

How much do you trust your memory of your childhood? Have you had other people who were around at the time who could give you their perspective? I always thought that people were avoiding me but my mom says that I was the one hidding from others and avoiding my peers. She recalled several examples that I didn't recall at all. I also thought that I had little interaction with my school peers because I never recalled talking to them or having friends but my grade school report cards said I was always jumping out of my seat when another kid asked a question because I wanted to help them 8O ..I don't recall that at all.

i am no expert, as I have not been to a doctor regarding my spectrumy issues...(aside from the ADD)..but the autistic spectrum was not mentioned....
I might be in a similar boat though..that Were I to attempt to get diagnosis, I would likely not be diagnosed as having Aspergers....though that does not necc. mean that I am not on the spectrum or am any "less Autistic"..I guess...than bonified, certified aspies...unless I am just completely deluded and simply don't know myself...or know anything about Aspergers or the Autistic spectrum

here is my latest post on the "Post a Video of yourself"

http://www.wrongplanet.net/posts24312-start795.html

(scroll down to my post)

Do I seem like a normal, neurotypical 32 year old "Woman"?
It is something that sorta plagues me too...Why would I be so obsessed with the Autistic spectrum if I am not on it??
I would seek some form of diagnosis...I just can't afford it.
Anywhoo...blah blah blah..
I remember your posts from when you were told by the doctors that you were not an aspie, and i can identify with the effect that must have had on you...and whatnot....anywhoo....

I would like to say that if you suspect that strongly that you are on the spectrum...then you most likely are...
(but this is also coming from a person who is not diagnosed)

Mw99 did you had ASPERGER-diagnosis traits since the begining of your life? If so you are! If not you are not. It is that simple.

Im in the same position as you are. I ask you not to spend your time on asperger forums since no one can tell trought INTERNET( wake up, peole don't know you and don't see you) wether you are or not. On this forum off course people will tell you are IT IS AUTISM forum. On personality disorder forum people tell you have personality disorder.

So don't waste your time. ONLY way is to see someone who has the experiance do whether diagnose you as having aspergers or say you are not. So don't waste your time here As it doesn't take you anywhere. I did that mistake and wasted a lot of time.

Admittedly, my memory is, today, like a book with no index! It APPEARS like I sometimes don't remember ANYTHING at first! Mention enough of it, I connect the thoughts, and could maybe write a BOOK about the experience. When my mother tells me about her thoughts about an event with me, they often turn out to be WRONG!

It is like someone saying "Remember how you cried when you lost such and such?" and you remember how you were maybe beaten up, had sand in your eyes, or whatever, and were merely weeping. EXTERNALLY it appeared like they were right, but they really had it all wrong.

In some cases I APPEARED to be doing the same!

That apparently isn't unusual for an Aspie! There WAS a thread about that here a while ago. I did the SAME! I remember one class when that was about ALL I did! The teacher was nice, but really had nothing to teach me, so I helped out others. ALSO, in grades prior to 3rd, it seemed like everyone was asking me for help.

Still, how much of that is really social? I do the SAME today at work! That doesn't mean we go out for drinks, or anything(not that I would go to a bar or drink alcohol anyway!)!

Maybe you were oblivious during your childhood? You would need your parent to talk about what you were like growing up.

The pertinent question is: do you think you have it?

See someone else if you think you do; an ASD specialist if possible (a basic consultation to begin with is good enough, no need to spend a zillion dollars on a full up assessment).

Severe reciprocal social impairment (nonverbal, verbal, emotional, etcetera), plus an all encompassing obsession that you spend an inordinate amount of time on, are the two core areas of Asperger's Disorder. There's a few more details along for the ride, but the two above are the red flags professionals look for.

I would hope you wouldn't waste alot of time. I understand the whole Autism forum etc. (which is why I hate specific game boards they say buy X game well it's a board to talk about X game so OF COURSE they are going to say BUY IT!) Also I don't feel a person has to see you. I feel describing your behaviors is good enough and while no one here is a Psychologist and can give you an official diagnosis I've asked plenty of (Do you have this behavior?) questions and gotten alot of answers of YES from AS people on these forums. My sister also did some research and thinks I have AS. My Psychiatrist was unhelpful on getting a true AS diagnosis and you must understand ALOT of stuff costs money I don't care if you have insurance Evaluations and tests COST MONEY and if my insurance is any indication they don't accept payment for that stuff and YOU HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET! So I'm fine with my self-diagnosis and know I can understand my behavior better here thanks to people on WP. :-) I am sorry you wasted alot of time. :-(
