I always feared going to the hospital or doctors, not because of needles but because I would have to wear a hospital gown. Shots, blood draws, or IV's never bothered me but when they tell me to put on the gown I about have a panic attack. They can restrain me, drug me or what ever but they will never get me to wear one. Anyone else have this problem?

Is it a privacy issue or a matter of the way the paper feels?

I'll wear hospital gowns if I have to, but I've always hated it. It's because I feel vulnerable taking off my clothes in a place with whirring flourescent lights and strange chemical smells.

Yeah, during one doctor visit I was asked to either take off my pants or put on a pair of shorts (provided by the doctor). I refused both and got into an argument with him. "Why can't I just roll up my pants?" He finally gave in. :D

When I went in for a series of surgeries I had to wear a hospital gown though and felt like throwing up. I wanted to keep my pants on but they threatened to take them off themselves once I was passed out. I said "fine" then face the wrath of my Spongebob boxers you evil ****...
The fabric was awful...I thought I was going to die.

No. When I go to the doctor, I'm afraid of them sticking something down my throat. As long as they don't stick anything down my throat, I'm fine.

Do you like to wear tight clothing or cloths and shoes that you can "feel"? I think this maybe a matter of lack of sensory feedback..those gowns feel like you are naked to me. They give back no sensory feedback other then random tickles...yuck. For some people when they can't feel their clothes on their bodies it is like not feeling they are in their bodies...very disorienting
and may even cause dizziness or nausia from lack of balance sensation<---just one theory

Hospitals never make am use gowns [even in surgery],and have only ever put ID tags on when am have had a general anesthetic-they take them off before am wake up,they also let am in the staff doors if possible as they often cut out the noise of the corridors, though it depends whether its trafford general or hope hospital on how much of it can be escaped.
they only ever allow am on a side room, and also put those metal guards on the bed to stop am falling off,as they have to with anyone who is a high risk of falling off the bed, have saved am during meltdowns and seizures.
they also know not to bother with gas before the general anaesthetic as it has no effect on am and the feel of the mask sets off meltdowns.
they do all this because they know am have autism, and what am need is written into notes.

get someone/do it self contact hospital and let them know about own needs if are going to be going in,let them know if have autism or as also/it's related needs/challenges.

When actually in the hospital, I didn't mind the real gown so much, but wore boxers under it. Without was just creepy.

Now those paper gowns they give you, no matter what you feel naked in those things. I hate them, but will wear them if I must. I always try to crumple it into kind of actually fitting, but it's a lost cause.

I've managed to avoid them since the mid-80s. The worst part is they're so drafty!

Yeah, I hate the gown, but I can't hate it more than the blood draw which often traumatizes me enough that I pass out. I bet that's never happened to you for having to wear these gowns.

Im totally cool with injections & blood tests - no problem, I don't even flinch.

But I hate having my blood pressure taken!

No-one can understand why it freaks me out - but I get scared that my arm is going to explode or drop off, it's horrible!

Hah! I'm exactly the same way.
When I was in the hospital getting ready to have my tonsils taken out, I ended up bailing out at the last minute.. (just before the IV)
