I´m 33 years old, and remembering all my life i think I could have met other aspies. I feel the need to contact them and ask them if they are or are not aspies.

What do you think? Is this a good idea or not?

There is a guy who is very vocal over the counterstrike chat. He's the owner of the server and I heard him every once in awhile chatting about computers and tech. I noticed a lot of subtle hints, so I just asked if hes on he spectrum hoping he wouldnt be offended. He was happy and surprised that I picked that up. I didn't say much else but I hope to talk to him again.

I think its possible to observe strong cases from strangers. More likely you would need a few encounters with a good share of dialog either observed or direct. I don't think I would ever ask anyone in person though, and I don't really suggest anyone else does. I'm sure there are plenty of people like me who strongly prefer to stay out of the stigma associated with the name.

On second thought. Most of my apprehension is caused by NT's. Just ask in private if you get the urge :)

I couldn't detect them. For me it would be like asking a blind man if he can see another blind man. Of course he can't. He can't see anything. I socialize best on all levels with people that live in mud houses in third world countries. Riding in a burro driven cart and chatting about the sights in the village is easy conversation for an Aspie.

I can't think of anybody I think might be one, so either they're not around me or I can't tell.

Yes, easily, and especially girls. The best way to observe it is by looking at nonverbal communication issues.

I can think of a few people I know and some I used to know who I suspect have it, or at least have many of the traits...but I'm pretty sure even if I wanted to ask them, they'd just say "What's Aspergers?"

Sort of like people having a "gaydar" I suppose...an ASDar?

I was laughing inside the other day when this one guy who has a few traits (but definitely doesn't have AS), I found out his brother has it. I just went "Wow, I wasn't too far off the mark."

Yes, usually (not just by seeing them in the street though, I'd have to have a conversation or two with them and/or see them in a social setting!)

No, I wouldn't ask them if they are aspies - they may not know themselves!! !! !

I probably wouldn't. I've never met another aspie yet there may be more around my area than I realize.

Don't ask. I feel like the fact someone suggested it and I researched further has ruined my life. Though it does explain my difficulties as a childl it probably would have been better ifnthey would have known what was wrong back then... just don't say anything to a 25 year old IMO.

Do I know other Aspies, yes, I seem drawn to them like a magnet, and when I told my uncle "I figured out what was wrong with me" he basically duhed me and said the whole family is like us... now I see that.

You might want to see if there are groups for aspies in your area. There are a few here in SF. Try meetup.com
I was on a train, with a ton of kids on a field trip. All the kids were talking and being loud, except for one kid who was sitting there with his hands over his ears. I was all, "that kid's autistic!" although of course I didn't say anything. It happens occasionally...

I havent seen my brother for maybe 8 years and you just make me think that maybe he has AS. Last time I saw him, he was playing videogames 15 hours a day.

I badly want to meet another aspie for this very reason; it feels like its something I can't get a grip on because theres no one around for me to relate to. Maybe I could spot another one... not sure though.
