Aw, c'mon prince. Farming in temperate climates is pretty seasonal by necessity, so it's not too surprising to have a festival holiday type event at the end of the harvest season.
Geez, while we're at it, easter is supposedly about killing a jew. Actually it has more to do with spring and the end of winter. When I was a kid I could never figure out what rabbits and painted eggs had to do with the crucifixion.
In response to the original poster's question, I didn't do a damn thing but wait for it to pass.
Thanksgiving's another one of those holidays that don't have no provision for people who are alone.
