Check your state laws. In some cases, as if your parents are sending you becasue of pending litigation, or court order, they may have a right to your file. Generally not if it's just that they are paying for the interview and you are only 18.

As Garyww pointed out, your psychologist can tell your parents whatever they pay him to say, especially if they have guardianship, executorship, or your power of attorney.

Best of luck to you ... you seem to need it.

Yes they will see the entry. The best thing to do is to go to the appointment and come right out and ask the doctor if he will disclose your conversations. If he says that he will not, then he is legally bound to that. if he says he will tell them then just decline the interview.

well the problem is that my parents are really against using medications and they only want to use natural stuff like l -thenanine and other vitamins and homeopathic remedies. So i was gonna use their insurance card and make myself an appointment and get some kind of medication for my anxiety/panic attacks. hmm maybe i'll just get xanax or something from a drug dealer.......

Panic attackes aren't typically an AS symptom so I'd see a general practioner for that and skip the psychoologist until later. What makes you think you are autistic if I might ask.

Well you're 18 and legally an adult, so I would guess nothing. But just ask them, they have to tell you.

Bonez,

What Gary is saying is that your panic attacks are separate from your AS, and a psychologist isn't going to help you.

Which I agree with but that's my opinion. Homeopathy is water and natural stuff is hit or miss, and none of it will help anxiety (well, except the illegal stuff, and that's hit or miss, too, and can aggravate anxiety). Talk to a regular doc and get her/his opinion. You are 18, and you are old enough to decide what treatment will work best for you. As much as your parents want to help, you have to start making your own decision, and research the issue for yourself.

Good luck, kiddo.

Unless you are still living at home... at which point the old addage still seems to prevail: When you live in MY house, you live by MY rules... blah blah blah.
I agree with much of what has been posted: If you are in any way still legally domeciled despite your age you may not have any say in what information is exchanged between physician and legal gaurdian. A frank discussion with the physician in question will answer most of your questions if not address most of your concerns.

Oh, yes, yes, a psychiatrist will. He or she will be pill oriented, and I will caution you to do your own research on the meds he or she might prescribe or suggest. S/he may have information to give you so you can think about it.

NocturnelQuilter, I feel really funny about a young person of 18 taking meds because s/he's still living at home and the parents require it. I can see your point, but I really feel the final say as to what a person of age takes into their body is up to the person, and not the parents. But that's me. There's all kinds of situations, and we each have to navigate them alone. Of course it sounds like Bonez' parents would rather he didn't take pills, which on one hand is good, but on the other, I don't know of anything else that would be effective that's altmed.

And ask lots of questions, Bonez, when you do visit the shrink. Like "are you gonna tell my folks what we talk about?" and then anything else that comes up, even goofy stuff.

Metta.

Depends on where you live.

When I went to a psychiatrist at age 18 I was in family insurance but had my own insurance card. My parents had nothing to do with it.

They could only know if one would sign anything about a release from medical confidentiality towards their parents.

A hint maybe: ask the secretary of your professional you plan to see and if that doesn't work, ask the professional about it first thing upon meeting him/her.
