Oddizm has a humorous look at what are considered to be Aspie traits. It's listed as "You might be an Aspie if...." Google Oddizms.

Roger Meyer has a good list of adult traits (as well as a lot of other writing).

AS can be resistant to routine?

You need to read such lists with caution. Everyone exhibits such traits to some extent - the question is whether or not a large number of these dominate your personality/behaviour and could be regarded as extreme by most other people. If someone knows you very well (family member or partner), you might want to ask them if they think you fit.

I first met this list before I knew anything about AS. It was pretty scary - it was like someone had posted a description of everything that defined who I was on the web! What was scarier, however, was my partner going through the list and pointing out that the bits I was ignoring (ie the negative things) were just as definitive :?

I agree about the reading such lists with caution. And I also have to say that that particular list seemed to have just about everything but the kitchen sink on it. Some items even seemed contradictory. Not to say that they can't both be bona fide symptoms of AS, but it did make me think two things:

1) Clearly, someone who fits symptom X will not fit symptom anti-X, and probably everyone on the planet fits either X or anti-X, so what use is it?
2) How many of these "AS traits" are actually just personality traits? This list was compiled from lists written by people about themselves, and I bet a lot of us identify traits as being AS that are actually just personality things.

It is a list of personality traits adults with AS might show, not a set of AS symptoms (many of which may be hidden when you are older). This is why some are contradictory, and there also will be many many other non-AS reasons why people may exhibit them.

You certainly can not diagnose from such a list, though if it helps you think about the way you behave and why that might be, it may be useful.

Oops, sorry. Not resistance to routine. Wasn't thinking. Can't type. Will edit.

Slight revision. I posted this in another thread but I'll do it again:

Core Symptoms: (each present to varying degrees in each person, particularly in childhood)
1. social difficulties/oddities
2. language issues: verbal and nonverbal
3. general need for routine; resistance to change

Second Round Symptoms: (most likely present in varying degrees)
4. obsessive interests
5. Sensory Processing Disorder
a. self-stimulation or "stimming"
b. clumsiness; balance/coordination problems
7. Executive Dysfunction

Third Round Symptoms/Conditions: (presence lends credence towards an ASD)
8. conditions commonly comorbid with ASDs
9. family history of ASDs or common comorbid conditions

Roger Meyer's list is interesting. I won't call it a concrete diagnosis for me, it describes many of my traits. Whether or not that means I have AS is besides the point. It helps me understand my actions, I think.
