I am currently having to explore the idea that I may have Tourettes. This was only made mention to me about two weeks ago by the neuropsychologist as I was having my first interview to set up for an examination for ASD. Anyways, having given it some thought, it does seem to explain some actions that I had attributed to nervous tics and anxiety disorder. But with repeated attempts on anti-anxiety medication only making the symptoms worse by magnitudes unheard of, anxiety seems to be ruled out as the cause of them.

So right now I'm exploring the thought and wanting to discuss with others who have been diagnosed and maybe those who have been diagnosed late too, like I might be.

A neurologist is better qualified to diagnose and treat Tourettes. Contrary to popular thought neuropsychologists do not have degrees in neurology.

I am seeing a neurologist, but he didn't throw any words around.

i (aswell as my parents and friends) strongly suspect myself too have tourettes, when i was younger i used to have an obvious tic about every two months and then i had a new one, i still have tics both physical and vocal, though i've never been diagnosed with it, all the medical reports about me seem too make alot of notice of my tics.

Many people don't realize, or don't care, that almost everybody has the mechinism inside themselves to exhibit the various symptoms of tourettes. some call it the 'kick the dog' reaction. The difference lays in what triggers the tics more so than how the tics are exhibited. Even very normal people will flinch or jerk noticably and yell out an expletive in an oncontrolled involuntary manner if stimulated in certain ways. For instance smash your finger with a hammer and watch what happens or see what occurs when you get frustrated trying to do something complicated that doesn't work out right.

Yeah, see mine are not really triggered by external stimuli or conscious stimuli. Some of it nervous tics, but others are just random flinches, squints, and just verbal disturbances of trains of thought. Having thought about it, it may answer a chicken-or-egg issue that I have been dealing with in regards to anxiety. Some anxiety is anxiety but not the answer to all of my tics. Some tics may explain some of the anxiety but doesn't explain all my anxiety.

Just out of curiosity have you always lived in the same general area and if so do you find that your conditions change slightly when you are traveling to other places?

I don't know really. I haven't really travelled so much to notice it when I travelled. I barely remember the times I do travel...

I have noticed that with some of my friends that have more external symptoms such as tics and stimming that it appears to be effected by changes in the magnetism or electrical charge in the environment to some extent and that they have far less problems when they visit certain places compared to others. Might be similar to how people 'feel' the weather.

What exactly are you doing that you think are tics? I've had this thing I did with my eye blinking nonstop. I thought I had a tic but a doctor told me that was often caused by a magnesium and potassium deficiency so I took a supplement and it stopped. Just a thought.

  • Utterances like "shut up"

  • Leg flicks

Edit: WP has a nice list format. :)

You should post a vid sometime. Greyhound and a few others have put up some good vids that help all of us understand tics and stims far better than we used to.
