I'm a HORRIBLE speaker. People are blown away by my writing, but my speaking is a total joke. Just to give you an idea, had John McCain been running against ME during the election, he'd have won with a landslide; that's how bad I am( then again, from what I read, that seems to be typical of folks with AS).

ANYWAY, due to my amazing social skills, half the time when I say anything I get the very famous "oh yeah?" Did I mention I hate that? It's basically the NT's way of saying "I don't care". Well, it's so obvious, I have my OWN code word for it: "cool!"

I've never told anyone before, but I'm telling YOU folks, as you likely deal with this a lot, too! :)

I usually can't talk worth a crap either, and my writing is decent, especially if I take my time. In my case, I think that I would be able to converse as well as I write, if I were allowed to take as long as I like to respond. We all know that isn't possible, so, I am left somewhat disabled in that department. It can be frustrating sometimes, but I've learned to accept it. :)

I think you entirely missed the point of my post, but good to know you clarified what I said about verbal socializing.

no, I think your brain is in NT mode if you totally missed what I was trying to say...nobody in Aspie mode would've likely been thrown off by the "dressing" to my actual message.

I get the 'oh really?' response at times. I thought that the person was genuinely interested in what I had to say though.

I don't care anymore. My speech skills have not improved and according to some people I make no sense when I talk. I actually was interviewed by a newspaper over the phone and when I read it in the paper I sounded like I was 10 years old. The interviewer even called me a kid.

Don' expect 'em to- just stick to your writing skills; trust me on this.

In fact, don't even be surprised if some NTs can't even comprehend your writing skills:

I recently wrote this article about economics, and my Uncle thought it was so good, he recommended I submit it to articlewheel.com

Before I did, I sent it to all my family and friends...

While the article( which, btw, I also put on Facebook and MySpace) got rave reviews, my room-mate's girlfriend told me she didn't understand it.

A few days later I heard her talking to my room-mate, and outlining in detail President Obama's economic plan.

My very first thoughts were "ok, but THAT you understood"....

Ugh! I loathe that too. Another one is "Really?". Yes, really! Way would I have said it if it were otherwise?

I don't get that response out of context.

No, I meant the one the OP talked about. The 'oh yeah' kind of response.
