I still have an old and battered plastic folder. While it's so badly folded that I have hard to put papers in it anymore, I still use it as a book mark.

Ahh, I haven't been so bad with my own cars, cause I don't really have them that long, plus they always cost me so much money, so I almost feel relieved to see the back of them lol.

But the family cars we've had, we got rid of our escort last summer, we must have had it about 10 years, i'm still not over that. And the escort before that, I still remember the number plate. I saw it in a car park one day and ran up to it, the owner was there, he must have thought I was crazy :P

When I found out that people, and animals had feelings, and thoughts of their own I also attributed these features to objects, and even places. (this is when I was very young) I used to get upset if I realized that I hadn't played with a certain stuffed animal, or doll for awhile. I remember actually crying a few times, because I thought that I had caused them to have very hurt feelings about being left out. I think that was during the time in school when the other kids left me out all of the time, and was very rude to me. It just struck me with overwhelming grief that I may have been responsible for making anyone(thing) feel like that. I decided one time to put more structure into how i played with my stuffed animals, and dolls so that they would never feel left out. I lined them all up, and took turns going down the line to play with them. that way they all had a turn, and they knew when their turn was coming. Perfect solution to me! Wish the rest of my life was that routine, and clear cut!

LMAO, I didn't mean it like that. Sorry, I meant I haven't been so upset when I have to get rid of my own cars. Just an English slang expression.

I have this problem for sure! I am much too old to feel that way but I still think toys and objects have feelings. I know logically that they don't but I still treat then like they do.

This isn't a "problem" in some artforms: it's called anthropomorphism or personification.

If the weather is used as an emotional backdrop to the story, this technique is called "pathetic fallacy".

Older people aren't afraid to use these techniques to "bring inanimate objects to life" in their writing and make the story a more vivid experience for the reader.

I use to get very sensative over inanimate objects especially with my stuffed animals and dolls.

When one was all by itself I'd set a doll or stuffed animal with it just so it wouldn't get lonesome. I was even worried about my objects especially when they were thrown around like balls. I use to get in a lot of fights with my brother because I felt that poor object was suffering.

I also use to have all my stuffed animals sitting in a circle around me thinking they'd protect me. Most of the time I'd have conversations with them when I couldn't sleep and actually think they were answering back. There was one particular stuffed animal named Miss Mousy. I believed she was talking to me by giving advice for some of the problems I was facing. I looked up to her as the wise woman or creature that had been there and seen it all lol.

I've never really told anyone this because I know how crazy it sounds.....

Anyway I know better now. I still get sensative about having my stuff thrown away it even gets me into arguments with my dad. I really do get attached to objects once I have them. Hoarding has always been a problem of mine. It's gotten a lot better these past years since I moved out of my mom's place. You don't really get options when it's a battle between room and junk. I'm very sensative about my space not being saturated with junk.

No, though I usually apologize to a door I slammed too hard or another object I may have otherwise accidentally abused. When I was a kid I thought that maybe my toys came alive while I was asleep, so I'd be real careful with them.

I still find myself apologizing to all the inanimate things that I bump into, trip over, and drop.

When I was little my family knew that I thought my dolls were "real" and they would tease me by torturing them. They would take my favorite doll and tie it upside down by its foot way up out of my reach. I was very worried that the doll was scared and would tell my family that it was scared of heights. They still like to bring that up. They would be shocked to know that I still think of them as having feelings.

Has anyone watched the tv show Clean House?? The families that they get are so messy and refuse to throw anything away. A lot of them seem on the spectrum to me. I am not very messy but I wonder if some messy people are AS people who have trouble getting rid of objects.

Me too.
I have often felt particularly attracted to rocks. When I pick up a rock I will sometimes talk to it. The rock doesn't respond with talk. But there does seem to be a kind of return current which could loosely be described as a kind of acknowledgement. Message received kind of thing.

Personification topic

And I thought I was the only one. Sora is courageous to have broached the subject. I used to think this was an NT thing, believe it or not..

This is why I have a hard time throwing anything away that means so much. Luckily there is no clutter, and I keep everything of value in a special, safe place. I could not bear to be parted from any of it, and I know what each thing means when I see it. Lots of attachment issues here. :) It must be terribly sad for many people when their prized possessions are lost forever in a fire/theft.

This is why I miss my own home so much. When I had to sell it I was crying when I shut the door for the last time. The place meant something--not the neighbourhood, but the actual building that had an emotional significance.

Oh, I used to give inanimate objects a voice with my cousin. It was an inside joke that seemed to only amuse us. We'd go something like, "It said, 'Aww man!!'"

I wish they were alive, so I can blame them for falling out of my grasp.

I don't remember ever thinking inanimate objects were alive although when Toy Story came out I secretly hoped they were. I tend to bond with inanimate objects though, I prefer them to people. Often they become like friends, which sounds sad, but it makes me happy.

I've toughened up a bit. I know I can get upset about every object I throw away or lose. If I gave in, i'd have to throw any trash only in my own bin, cause I want it to be with all the other stuff thats thrown away in the house. :salut:
