Does anyone else struggle with this? I have a lot of sensitivities to sight, sound, touch but also feelings are way too intense and really overwhelming for me and unbearable at times. I have to limit my interactions with others because of it. I feel like I'm the only person in the world suffering with this. If anyone else struggles with this can you let me know I'm not alone. Thanks

Your not alone. A lot of aspies experience this. I react quite strongly and adversely to william hague's voice, the smell of coffe and tea, kisses, bright lights, beeping sounds in supermarkets, multiple people talking at once. I also have extremely sensitive hearing, and become distracted by sounds other people cant hear (coke fizz, high pitched computer noises - not mine, and not the normal lowlevel noise, but one not usually audiable, air conditioning, the noise my watch makes when I press the 'light' button).

You did a nice job saying what that feels like. Language is very difficult as well and have a lot of trouble expressing my thoughts and feelings. I know what I'm thinking but have trouble finding the language to express it. Thanks

Your welcome. Feelings aren't my strong point either. But thoughts I can manage. And words when I'm not speaking them.

You're lucky to be able to express your thoughts. I have a lot of trouble with language and why I can't communicate hardly at all, especially in verbal situations where speed is required.

I found that therapy helped me translate thoughts and feelings into words. I didn't speak or write half as well before therapy as I did after.

Sensory overload is a part of my secondly eggsistence, so I have to stim all the time. Stimming helps a lot.

I have had some therapy and not sure how that could help. There was a brain injury at birth and pathways damaged and therapy can't fix something like that, but it might help with the emotional strain with a therapist who understands. I'm in my early fifties and know these things don't improve sufficiently enough or it would have by now. I'm glad you have found some improvements in your situation.

Not only Yes! But He*l YES!
Light, high-pitched sounds (sirens, baby crying/screaming), some repetitive noises( loud Bass on car stereos), some kinds of smells, wool on skin, cold on teeth, etc. etc.,

Sincerely,
Matthew

I always notice that I'm the only one who can't hear the TV while I eat.. Could that be an audio sensory problem?

I also have sensory hypersensitivities that seems to get worse when I drink a lot of caffeine.

Is this common for Autism? I never really had to many sensory overload issues growing up but then again I don't know.

I don't know. It's something I suffer with. I have a fragile nervous system. It may not be the case with all people on the spectrum.

I'm not sure it's even linked. I was just wondering if others have to cope with it on the spectrum as I do.

Therapy mostly helped me say or write things about myself like my post earlier. Before, I couldn't write posts on forums and never did. I think it was because people asked me a lot of questions, and I was forced to figure out how to connect the words to the stuff going on inside my head.
