I just made up a game on another thread, and thought I would make a new thead about it here. :bounce:

Basically, you have to write a sentence that contains only four of the five vowels. The fifth will be forbidden.

Each poster will be allocated a different forbidden vowel, according to their order of posting. I'll start with A, to show you an example.

Sentence (hopefully) containing no As: "I go by the title of wholly_white on this forum."

Order of vowels (which I'm sure we're all familiar with):

A, E, I, O, U.

Now it's the next person's turn. The forbidden vowel for their sentence will be E.

:bounce:

Additional rules:

For the purposes of clarity, please ensure your special sentence is bolded to distinguish it from other comments you may wish to make, and indicate clearly which letter you have allocated yourself. I suggest this format:

"A"

Bolded special sentence here

No editing of your special sentence allowed!

If you make a mistake, you must make a new post trying again with the same letter, and other members are free to quote your mistake and point it out. Hopefully this will all add to the fun!

This is fairly difficult. I must ask what would occur if you didn't do it right?

----------

i.e. Made a mistake? Would one have to redo it, or do we move on?

Just try your best, everyone. Ooooh, no gerunds. How shall I ever manage?

 all_white just failed spectacularly.

This is one of the hardest games I've ever invented. Especially at 00:54 at night!

Also, "y" is a vowel in certain cases... where would "y's" fall?

"E"

All I want is to find a way to drink this milk.

I think the sentences are going to be really strange topic wise, nonsensical and choppy.

"I"

not_black must now try once more, and get her sentence correct and free from errors.

Peko, I wasn't going to consider Y a vowel, but if anyone wants to, they can go ahead! I think we'll pretty much need to make up the rules as we go along...

I can't think; that's as far as I can get, and thus, I'll halt here.

"A"

The letter preceding "B" is not present in this sentence.

(Had it been absent it would have been present.)

You could have used:
Just try your best, everyone. Ooooh, no gerunds. How shall one ever manage?

I can see where it could be an amusing game, but it is far too dangerous. I'm a writer, and I dare not warp my thoughts that way. You'd be surprised at the traces it can leave behind in your writing. It would be almost as bad as doing a pastiche of some really dreadful style...

I respectfully disagree. Apart from being a fun game, I think it could actually be a very interesting exercise for a writer. It's an interesting challenge coming up with suitable synonyms that do not contain the forbidden vowel, yet convey your desired meaning. It makes you think more about the words you are writing and the letters that are in them, and you stop to consider what you are actually writing, rather than taking all the words for granted. :)

A certain exercise I once read of (used by a lady who held workshops on creative writing) involved writing a story a few pages long that was only allowed to contain one adjective. One. Just one. Imagine that. 8O

Apparently, it was very good for the class. At first they moaned and groaned, and complained that it would be impossible, but they then went on to achive some of their best work yet to date.

If everyone tried their best, we could get it done together.

*considers carefully*

Do I pass?
