Adolph Sax's original prototype saxophone was a bass with a wide bore, it is still somewhat playable, it is on display in a museum. it was pitched one whole tone below a bassoon, and was intended to replace the bassoon in orchestras who wanted more lower woodwind volume.

The Nazis hid a stockpile of stolen Knight's Templar gold underneath the Cathedral de Payens in Paris.

...I don't actually know this.

William Shockley, the inventor of the transistor, as a parlor game rigged up a neural efficiency/speed test consisting of a flashing light synchronized with an EEG machine and a timer, whose goal was to see who was the "smartest" person in the room, and the winner was a beautician with a measured IQ in excess of 200 who spoke 12 languages fluently.

Google, Twitter, Dropbox, and Facebook all have employee a cappella groups that get together every year and perform in concert. They’re called Googlapella, The Songbirds, Syncopation, and The Vocal Network.

The first experiments with hang gliding were around six hundred AD in China. Slaves had large kites tied to their backs, and were forced at sword point to walk of the edges of a tall tower to see if they would fly.

I was born on the same month of the same year as the release of Windows 95.
The first service pack for Windows 95 was released on Valentine's Day of 1996.

In 50 million years (if we're lucky), there could be kangaroos hopping around Shanghai. The entire continent of Australia moves toward Asia by about 2.8 inches each year and will eventually collide with China and form a new supercontinent, Pangea Ultima. There’s already been enough of a shift to cause GPS problems, so Australia’s coordinates will hop north 5.9 feet on January 1, 2017, to make up the difference.

one name is the holographic universe theory, which is an outgrowth of quantum theory. IOW the thinking is that the 3D universe we know is merely a data-reduced projection down from some higher-dimensional super-reality. some pertinent people [who have opined about this] in this vein are elon musk, jurgen ziewe, Robert Monroe, dr. ian stephenson, dr. George Ritchie, too many more to list here. some couch it in the imagery of us being characters in some higher reality's video game, ala "the matrix" et al.

Pixar films all follow the same 22 rules of storytelling. #4 on the list is: Once upon a time there was ___. Every day, ___. One day ___. Because of that, ___. Because of that, ___. Until finally ___.
