now peep this; while weak emcees play games, they ain't deceivin'
i'm hallucinating prophecies like nicodemus;
i control microphones and speakers like a preacher when i speak of
receiving visions from the deep future, teachin'
heretics i leave 'em kneelin' and believing', like a 9/8ths scale Jesus
i'll have 'em bowing down and begging to be redeemed
by the breath of life i'm breathing

my aching back hurts,
my dragging donkey burns.
i hate these sad words,
for how my world turns.
i'd rather be glad,
or at least neutral-
instead of half-mad,
as is usual.
heaven's nice, i hear-
up there are no fears-
eternal good cheer,
and also no tears.
until then i wait,
for final relief
high in heaven's sight,
that is my belief.

While yer mind is trippin' givin' ye the longest night ye've known,
Yer head will ache, yer back will break, yer speakers will be blown.
Come bury all that pains you in the red box by the sea,
It's time to lay it all to rest, begin yer destiny ...

So, does anyone else try to do this to a beat, or just with the rhyme's own internal beat?

(Apologies if prose isn't allowed in this thread)

in terms of "beat" it is for me some variant of the classic ABAB or AABB rhyming scheme.

Your soul is immortal, though Heaven may beckon ...
The time is not nigh, I do dare to reckon.
Deep in your heart, deep in your soul.
You know your life's struggles have taken their toll.

But, you've still got that flicker, that glimmer of hope,
For one brighter day that transcends all you've known.
For a heart rich as yours, your soul can't descend,
Till you've flown to the rafters in this life and then ...

You'll find what you've looked for, to love and be loved,
The wisdom of knowing, He watches above.
The joy you have brought, if only you knew,
Please don't leave too soon, whatever you do...

For your words, your heart, they touch the soul,
And friends live forever and ever I'm told...
In this life and after, they journey beyond,
They meet in the middle, when life's light is gone ...

Depends ... sometimes purposefully to a beat, but other times, totally without, depending on how I'm feeling ... whatever flows naturally...

:jester: You're funny! A poetry slam ... sounds fun! I did one of those just now through messages with MilkTalk ... he's pretty good! We've written about 10 funny poems tonight! :jester:

It's fun playing off of each other.

I can't wait 'til this December.
just the good parts I remember.
were there a month to disremember,
choose January not December.
