Probably not, because I've handled them a lot and can't recall ever being harmed by it. I don't really like the critters you can find among them, though.

I do, but I recall them more on cats than on fellow humans.

I had 2 gerbils and 1 dancing mouse when I was a kid, but I don't recall their eye color despite holding them in my hands. Close enough, yes, but didn't notice.
the closest I've ever been to wild mice was some meters away.
