I never gave it much thought.

Well first it was to be a train driver as I was obsessed with trains at the time, then it was to be a ghostbuster when I became obsessed with that.

Come middle school I decided I wanted to be an archeologist but was told I wasn't bright enough to do that.

Then I wanted to be a raceing driver, was told that was pointless because I'd never make it to F1... as if it was the only series out there. *facepalm*

I don't think my family ever supported what I wanted to be :(

When I was 15, I wanted to be a truck driver, so I could talk on the CB and get girls.

That was really my only pressing ambition when I was growing up.

Wanted to be a pilot but i were already too tall to fly Fighter jets before i was 18 so i gave that up and focused on computers.

Now, with 20 years of experience from working as a PC/Mac tech, a DB designer, a system tech, networking, several programming languages, teaching and security - i work as a multi area IT specialist, so it kinda worked out. I've played LOTS of flight simulators over the year though - and i've thought about getting a pilots license the last few years.

I wanted to be a writer (which I still want to be) or a teacher. Now I know I don't have the people skills to be a teacher.

From the age of five I wanted to be a pediatric neurosurgeon.

Later on, as a teenager I gained an interest in psychology and wanted to be a psychologist/psychotherapist.

I never became either, for several reasons. I'm still interested in human brain and mind.

I always said when I was a little kid "I want to be a Mountain Man!"

Now I'm starting to find more ways to become exactly that :)

Anybody ever see "Ben Casey?" It was a TV show about a neurosurgeon.

My main ambition was to get out of my mother's house--through any means possible.

My two dreams as a child were to work as either an owner of a Construction Company (even had a logo and slogan as well as a warehouse drawn out) or an Elevator/Escalator mechanic. I was told repeatedly by "experts" that those jobs are for dropouts and failures and to aim higher. Against my will, I was practically forced in business school.

While I am struggling with underemployment (and there are a flood of fellow Business school grads), I still love the construction industry and have moved in that direction at my current job. As for the Elevator/Escalator mechanic, I told a guy who worked in the field what the "experts" said and he just chuckled and said "well, $65,000 to start isn't bad for a dropout!"

When I was a kid, I wanted to be the next President Of The United States, but I realized that would have been too much of me, along with realizing that most politicians don't really care about the people they serve.

Well, I always wanted to be a schoolteacher; then, when I was around 12, I discovered fashion, and then I wanted to be a fashion designer. As it turned-out, I didn't become a fashion designer, but I DID become a teacher----just, not a schoolteacher, in the conventional sense----I taught computers.
