Lately, I've read two articles about California and how there's a drought there and how a big earthquake will hit SoCal in the next thirty years.

http://www.newsweek.com/nasa-california ... eft-313647

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2015/03/ ... 7-percent/

Before you post anything here, try not to post anything snide or overly harsh; it's just me realizing that maybe I shouldn't move to Los Angeles, despite the fact I love it there for many reasons. I'll still visit, still keep my SN here, maybe have my wedding there.... but these two articles in themselves have made me reconsider.

Yeah, there's a HUGE drought here in CA, four years with little rain. There's rationing and people have been ordered to cut water use by 20%, and REFUSED. Water use has gone UP instead, in LA most of all. The inevitable result will likely be jail time for water wasters as the govt tries desperately to force people to use less water. Farmers are tapping into groundwater that is so brackish that fields are becoming alkali flats, white with salt and utterly useless, as we enter a second year with zero percent water for agriculture. This and more is all true, google it.

And then there's the earthquakes, LA hasn't had a giant earthquake for 200 years, and is way overdue. (There have been quakes on smaller faults, but the San Andreas hasn't moved in the south for two centuries.) When it hits, all the freeways will be cut off since there's only a handful of ways to get out, all cross the fault. Even worse, the aqueducts will likely be cut too, which means that 20 million people will have no water at all. Keep in mind that LA is a DESERT. No water, no food, no way out, no contact with the outside world. It all adds up to something worse than Katrina.

If what you want is to cut yourself off from your family, you could move to Portland or something.

^ Do you have other places I could consider? I've given Vancouver, BC a thought.

I pulled up a map because I was interesting in your question about other places to consider. Salt Lake City might be a good choice. It's about 12 hours on I-84 from Seattle, and 10 hours from Los Angeles on I-15. Then if you want to head back to Seattle or down to Los Angeles, it's just hop in your car and go.
Good luck and stay safe.

What about Las Vegas?

The drought is even WORSE there, if that's possible. Citizens have been reduced to drinking sewage. Lake Mead is nearly empty. I've heard talk that the casinos may have to truck in water.

I see. Even at that, bear in mind I haven't given up on moving to Los Angeles altogether, however.

I live in LA, and I am not afraid of the Big One.
Near SD, the gubermentz is building a desalination plant for water.

Do you find LA a congenial place to live? Do you mind having to drive everywhere for everything?

I'm curious, is it easy for Americans to move to Canada? Or do you have Canadian citizenship?

If you want to give Portland consideration, then do so. Portland isn't called "Weird City" for nothing. The show Grimm is filmed in Portland as is The Flash.

http://www.latimes.com/local/california ... story.html - Oh, wait, read this article. The drought isn't as dire as the original reports made it out to be.....
