I was a member of the most prominent autism not-for-profit in NSW called Aspect. I let my membership lapse because at Aus$75.00 a year I was not getting value for money. Aspect seems to have a top-down approach and mainly focused on children. There is nothing wrong with the latter but if you are not a child and fifty is in the rear vision mirror, the organisation is more a worthy cause than anything else.

As an autistic person, I have always felt it is worthwhile getting behind the relevant local autism lobby group (as long as it doesn't seek to 'cure' autism). Aspect just didn't seem to get me excited or involved - unlike the older persons' organisations that still get my membership fees.
