I found this great song on youtube. It immediately reminded me of quacks trying to cure autism. maybe this could be a good song for an anti-cure theme?

have a look at the lyrics in detail on youtube cuz they are too long for this site.

There's got to be something better than that.

OK. I am now on a mission to find a GREAT "I am me, leave me be" song.

Anyone have a transcript, or are we not allowed to read it either?

Lyrics here:

http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/ ... 8D00349C45

I don't personally see any particular meaning in it though. Fair song, but meaningless as far as I'm concerned. Until they themselves (Metallica), explain them, it's meaningless to me. I am one who does not buy explanations like, "It's open to interpretation." That, IMHO, is a cop out explanation that relieves the writer from any and all responsibility for meaningful lyrics.

There are some fan explanations here, but they are all over the place. I've not yet found any explanation from the band.

Without their explanation, it's meaningless to me, and I won't assign my own meaning to it. That's just the way I am.

EDIT: See if this video works for you:

http://www.mojvideo.com/video-metallica ... 80a57b0be2

EDIT2: It's meaningless, but I like it. Not one of their best, but it's okay.

Thanks, that link worked fine for the video - but - "Oww, my ears my beautiful ears!" I should have known...
Sorry aspie48 but I didn't really see it either.
Some of the explanations below the lyrics seemed relevant but like the link MrXxx gave to more - they're all over the place.

From my favorite metallica album, this is what I grew up on. The song does seem to be ridiculing people who need to believe in a cure even if no such thing exists.

The lies tempt her and she follows
Again she lets him in
She must believe to fill the hollow
She's been fooled again

It's a bit vague though as it doesn't say what is being cured and how. And it isn't one of Metallica's best songs, although I like it, I like sludge metal so that doesn't really mean much.

I know of several:
"Just the Way I Am" by Angel Faith
"Let Me Be Myself" by 3 Doors Down
"Not Like Everybody Else" by the Kinks
"Walking on the Sun" by Smashmouth (maybe, the whole song is drenched in methaphores that are kinda hard to explain)

I'm afraid I did - in much the same way as it's very difficult to look away from a horrifying event happening before your eyes.
I became transfixed for entirely the wrong reasons.

You have nerves of steel!! !

I might have managed about 5 seconds, and for at least 2 of those I was desperately trying to work out how to make it stop!

You know, I'm so glad that the internet and all this other technology wasn't about in my youth.
