The kid who shot up the school in Connecticut had Aspergers syndrome, and I thought it is important for people to know that aspergers syndrome was long thought to cause the individual to be violent, this hypothesis has since been discarded, and aspergers syndrome does not cause an individual to be violent.

I agree. It is important for people to know.

But, in stating that, you expect the popular media to do what exactly?? Publicize complete and accurate facts above sensational tidbits and lurid commentaries that, however harmful they may be to the broader demographic, are technically truthful (no matter for how tiny a swath of the people they're discussing), might get people talking and tuning in??

Keep dreaming. Don't expect help from the media, or the rest of the world for that matter. Be your own advocate, or get good at hiding.

Unless you've got cast iron nerves and a lot of people who will help you advocate for yourself, I sadly recommend the latter.

Sadly I have agree at this point.

There weren't enough people to say this at the beginning and now it's too late, people on the spectrum have become a target for hatred and there is nothing that will change that now (I even told people, just like you, OP, that we have to fight for ourselves, but no-one listened).

My advice to you at this point, is like buyerbeware's. If you don't have nerves of adamantium and ways to help defend against the public, you should go into hiding like everyone else has.

I, on the other hand, no longer have that option.

As soon as i heard the kid had Asperger's Syndrome, the first thing I thought was "aww s**t. Now, people are going to thnk we are not only crazy, but violent enough to shoot a school." It's what people do everytime one has a disability and disorder. All they think about is the worst things about it, and it sucks for whomever has it.

Agreed, and 9 times out of 10 people act on their ignorance in bad ways too.

When people say a killer is AS or "mentally ill", it really bothers me. Everybody who has these disorders is a mass killer. Most people who have these illnesses are not violent, but really sweet and nice people. I know this is off topic a bit, but I have a friend who's Muslim and he's a great guy. Again, the media finger pointing at a group saying mean things.

How's this for fearmongering. They've shown video clips of him as a child on the news and posted them on Swagbucks TV. Now parents are going to panic if they find out that their child's a loner.
