Wow, that landlord needs to re-examine his conscience. It's great to hear how the neighbors are truly rallying around this man though. Perhaps they can find a new place to live with a more sympathetic landlord, and/or someone with home organizing skills and knowledge of autism can very gently help him to sort through at least some of the stuff, and minimize. I'm glad he's surrounded by support though.

Wouldn't you think the landlord would just shut up and take the money? That's how they are where I live. We have slums everywhere and nobody complains.
