I know this guy who is 73 and retired

Every night as a routine he goes to his local pub and has like 6 pints of beer.

Do you think hes putting his health at serious risk?

Yes.
But at this age, I find it his choice.

Do you have local pubs open? 8O

Six pints a night really screws with your liver.....

Often, I wish you would just go to the library, rather than the pub.

That's definitely a problem.

At the age of 76, knocking back a few pints may be his only remaining pleasure.

Yeah even me being age 31 the amount of pleasure I get in life is not as good as it was compared to when I was 24.

Likewise except my worthless corpse 38. Constantly worried about $$. Everyday noise sounds way too loud. Precious lil "people" superficial, cliques, judgmental, talk too much. Fecal incontinence. Destroyed occupational prospects. Nobody biased in my favor. Itchy scales. Weight gain. Zero academic accomplishments

38 is really old

Very true. He may have various issues he's dealing with & needs to take the edge off. There are people who do much worse. I know an Aspie with sever anxiety, depression & other problems who used to drink very heavily as a means of escape. One morning he bought a 12 pack of beer & in the evening he drove back to the same store & bought another 12 pack of beer. They sold it to him & then watched him get in his car & called the cops. He got arrested for DUI & quit drinking after that. However after he quit his drinking, he started having sever panic attacks on a daily basis that caused him to regularly threaten suicide. He got put on very heavy doses of psych meds that exceed the recommended dosing guidelines that barely take the edge off. He can no longer handle living alone & being by himself. His mental & probably his physical health were actually much better when he was drinking over 12 beers a day than after he stopped his drinking.

Hold on a sec I thought drinking over guidelines made anxiety and depression worse?

For some people, it does.  For others, it only "takes the edge off" by dulling the senses, even though it really does not make anything else any better.

In the UK this is pretty common, the elderly generations would rather go to the pubs with their mates than be alone.

Back in their day pubs were where everyone went to socialise and buy stuff, meat traders would go into the pubs and sell it much cheaper for example, your whole family was basically in the pub back then socialising with everyone in your local area. People used to do business there too. This still sort of happens with the elderly generation, plus their parents went to the pub their entire lives and died whilst still going to the pub for example so they will too.

Pubs are open in the UK but you're being made to sit outside in the beer gardens and not inside.

Off Topic
Here in the US, "pubs" are nothing more than restaurants with UK or Irish themes -- not at all like real public houses.  My favorite will always be Tábhairne Leo in County Donegal (Eire) -- just the right mix of fame and craic.

Sláinte!

:D
