My wisdom teeth are only showing up now. Late, aren't they?
Luckily, without other anomalies, but it's painful.

I never had wisdom teeth; maybe that's why I'm in the state I'm in----no wisdom! :P

I hope you get to see a dentist soon.

I had all four removed when I was your age.
They should be removed if they're painful, or if they're crowding your other teeth.

For now, only their emergence is painful.
It gets active every now and then, with pauses for months. Right now, the second half of the first tooth seem to be breaking out.

Some people have enough room for them and they don't cause problems.
Did you have a 360° panorama x-ray? It can see the direction of their growth.

No but I had a brain scan some time ago and it showed them inside (up to then I suspected my wisdom teeth might be nonexistent), in the right direction.

I was 13 when I had my wisdom teeth taken out. I guess I was pretty wise at such a young age.

But seriously, why does the human body have to have so many parts that cause us little more than pain and suffering and they end up having to be surgically removed? Apparently we did need them when we were a "lesser" evolved species, but not anymore. And naturally our bodies haven't evolved so that we're no longer born with them so they won't give us any more trouble.

I thought you were in pain all the time from your wisdom teeth.

That's why I thought it would be good if you saw a dentist.

We have a number of vestigal items in our bodies which are no longer required but cause problems.
These things can take hundreds of thousands of years to disappear. Already there are some people being born without wisdom teeth.

Magz if they are causing you pain speak with your dentist and if needed get a referral to an oral surgeon. Misbehaving wisdom teeth can cause ongoing issues but it some cases don't need to be removed.

Currently my wisdom teeth are peeking out. I'm so glad that they are straight and don't collide with any other tooth. My dad has them lying entirely crosswise in the gum. Apparently, he doesn't care.

At first I thought about removing them. When I read about the procedure and its aftermath(having a swollen and painful face when the insensibilization stops working).

I've never been scared of the dentist but that's too much. Of course when they're growing in the wrong direction it is better to get rid of them as they're not only useless but can also be harmful.

Depends. Mine popped out in my mid to late teens. They hurt like hell but I didn't need anything done. Now they're part of my normal teeth.

I have a semi-impacted wisdom tooth - it was the last to appear, when I was about 30 years old, and it hasn't given any real problems. On my last dental X-Ray though, the dentist told me that it showed signs of decay, and that it should be removed. I told her that the last time I had a back tooth removed it was a total nightmare, and took around an hour. She agreed with me that it would be best done under general anaesthetic, and would arrange a hospital appointment. That was last year - anyone who is familiar with the state of our NHS (National Health Service) will realize that this probably means some time in the 2030s.

I had an impacted one and it damaged the tooth next to it so they both had to be removed.Removal damaged the nerve that runs in that area ,and now I have partial numbness on that side of my mouth. If they aren’t causing problems like crowding another tooth or painful, leave them.
I still have one left that hasn’t come down. The folklore here is when your last wisdom tooth drops you have lived half your life.If that one stays up , I will easily go past 100.lol
