Gun ownership laws?

My son has been diagnosed with Asperger's at school (5 years ago), he does not have an "official" medical diagnosis. Would an "official" diagnosis exclude him from owning a firearm or participating in shooting sports at all? :?:

What country and state/province/area do you live? It might vary from country to country and area to area.

Aspergers does not prevent some one from owning a firearm in the US. In Illinois, the only way mental health issues prohibit someone from owning or using a firearm is if they have been in a psychiatric ward, then they are banned from posessing a firearm for 5 years after that. In Illinos, he will have to get a FOID card if he wants to own any guns or purchase ammo.

Thank you. He's not into sports or any other activities but he is interested in shooting sports.
