I have to keep snipping at my girlfriends cheek with two very specific fingers. I feel the urge on the inside of the fingers to do it and I like it when her cheeks are cold wtf? I must do it when I feel the feeling inside my fingers and it has caused a bit of stress epsecially if it's when she is driving. I usually say 'snip' or 'square snip' or Squiggly square snip' when I do it, sometimes I cant stop doing it and do it in a square shape four times too. It drives me mad, not to mention my girlfriend. I keep trying to squeeze my fingers together to stop it or bite them to try and get rid of the feeling I get on my fingers but it wont go until I've done it sometimes multiple times. Even talking about it now has made the feeling flare up in the fingers involved now and I want to run into the bedroom and snip her cheeks even though she is alseep Please tell me I'm not going mad!

Really? I have OCD traits that don't mimic any symptom of autism.

My daughter's stim also involved her hands. I do not know if your is a stim or not, but it sound like because of the imperative need to do something. First of all we talked to her about the importance of stop doing what she was doing (she was hurting herself) and the consequences if she continued doing that (medical intervention was the next step), and het therapist recommended she should have always something at hand she could use when she felt the urge. Something to keep her hands busy. I know your situation is not that difficult, but it may end up hurting your relationship with your girlfriend, and it seems you love her, so maybe you can try replacing her cheeks with something else. :)

Perhaps there is some form of demonic power inside her cheeks and god is pushing your hand to destroy it! I think I have solved all of your problems. You can thank me later when you have exorcised the demons from her face!

Thanks for the replies. I used to have a little paperclip to keep my finger busy with so I might get another one, it got lost when I moved home. Interesting point about OCD, although I dont have AS, i have ADHD and a SPD. I posted the following elsewhere not so long ago, so any advice or info would be great..........

'Do you think it's like some form of OCD? My Mam has OCD and my GP said it can come down to me from her too. I have these irritating things I have to do, others in my family say that they are my 'rituals'. The thing is I feel better when I've done them so long as I've done it enough for my mind to want me to stop, but it is very annoying for me. Some of the things I've done drive me mad and sometimes scare me. Like putting a plugged in fone charger end to my lips, then I cant stop until it's been along all of each lip, preferably an even number of times each way. I mean I dont think 'I must turn it on first' but if's it's on it just makes me want to do it worse. I cant explain very well because I'm not good with words at times, but I dont set out to want to harm myself...well not very often anyway. Same with hot water, freezing cold water, the iron, the bleeding gas flame on my cooker, I cant describe what possesses me to do these things.

It seems that if I'm not shouting things out or moving in funny ways, if I'm not picking, tapping, jigging, shaking etc etc I have these things that happen, like the cheek thing and putting my hands in things and whatnot. It literally drives me mad at times and if people catch me doing it, it is first very embaressing and secondly end up in a bad mood if I cant finish these things or if I have to keep things inside me. One example is that I like smooth, shiney booklet type things, like catalogues that are nice and new and freshly made and I have opened them. I love to smell the pages because I love the fresh smell of them, but then I have to like, erm..I suppose you would say 'kiss' the pages making sure they are nice and fresh and cold and that they touch each lip. Then I'll find another page and like smother myself with it, literally all over my face. My girlfriend has caught me a fair few times and said 'you enjoying that?' and now I have to carry on, I cant stop although at first it was enough of a shock to halt me in my tracks. If I'm places where other people are I have these things in mniture at times, so I'll pretend to be looking at something just because I need, I HAVE to touch it with both hands. I'll sneak smells in if I can too but it's very hard. As I say it's not too bad at the moment because I am too scared to go out much because of how I am but it's making me very depressed staying in my flat all day long, everyday. I would love to go out but I just cant trust myself not to shout things or get upset when people have ago at me if I do.

I have a SPD too, so I guess the touch and smell could just be related to seeking those smells and touches etc but it seems a little more to me. I let some of these things out to my GP just yesterday and nearly nurst into tears in his room. I had to write them down and give them to him to be precise, but I told him a bit more when he was asking a few things after he read my letter and I was fighting back the tears. He was going to send me to a sleep clinic to see a specialist because I keep jumping alot at night and keeping my girlfriend awake, and I'm always tired every single day and I keep missing things that people are saying, but he is going to keep that on hold now until he has spoken with a neuropsychiatrist in Birmingham about them seeing me first about TS, I guess this neuropsych will be able to see if I have got OCD aswel will he while he is at it?

Also is there anything that can be done about TS and/or OCD without giving you tablets to make you drowsy because I'm already so tired all the time that I can hardly get out of bed everyday as it is. Any advice would be greatfully recieved.'

I don't know about TS, but you can do therapy for OCD. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the most commonly used.

Compulsions in OCD can look similiar to rituals in ASD. Obsessive thoughts in OCD can look similiar to someone obsessing over special interests. The difference is obsessive thoughts in OCD cause anxiety while in ASD obsessing over special interests can reduce anxiety. Compulsions are linked more directly to obsessive thoughts in OCD.

Maybe it is just that your hand is the one possessed by a demon. Either way it seems almost certain that demons were involved. You should get your hand and your girlfriend's cheek checked out by your local priest.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not... I suspect not since you winked in the post earlier. It sounds funny but this is actually my background. I know some friends of my family who would pick up random strangers for suspected demonic possession and try to exorcise that demon out of them. One time I went over to vissit my folks and they brought over someone I believed to have TS. (He had a tic...it may have been something different but it was at least something similiar.)

I am much of an "obsessive" person with OCD rather than "compulsive". My OCD obsessions do cause me anxiety, but my OCD obsessions are enjoyable. I don't really have that many aspie rituals, but yeah, they are different.

Thanks for your response! :)

No, I'm being completely serious. I've seen this kind of thing hundreds of times before, it's most likely a minor demon that is only strong enough to possess a single appendage, in this case being his hand. If you don't stop it, however, it can eventually take over his entire body. It can be cured simply by a weeks worth of daily holy water injections, so it's best to do so while it is weak.

Serious my arse.

These things are causing me a huge ammount of stress and to be honest I came here looking for help and advice before I end up doing something stupid, not for people to start taking the piss!

Thanks to those of you who did take the time to read my posts and make serious and thoughtful replies.

Hi OCDGIRL, could you tell me a little more about what CBT actually is or how it works please? Does a psych do it or is it someone else?

Well, I'm not OCDGIRL of course but I've done a little bit of CBT before... I can tell you what I remember...

It relates thoughts, feelings, and actions. The action of snipping at your GFs cheek is presumably due to a feeling of anxiety (if it's OCD) The feeling of anxiety is caused by some thought that may or may not be overtly related to the action (OCD is strange that way...) In therapy you'll explore those thoughts and ask rational questions about them. The goal is to show that the thought is irrational and replace it with a rational thought. The theory is that the anxiety will ease up and you won't feel the need for the compulsions.

It's a therapist that does it not a psychiatrist. Call around and ask what their specialty is.

Now that's not very nice at all. I take time out of my own day to try to help solve your problems, and this is how you thank me? May god smite your ungrateful soul....
