The Smiths are probably my favourite band of all time (and an early obsession of mine). I like every single song.
I like Morrissey solo a lot too but he has done a few things I don't like as well...

My favourite Smiths songs at the moment are: Jeane, Wonderful Woman, Stretch out & Wait, Rusholme Ruffians, This Night Has Opened My Eyes, I Know It's Over, Cemetry Gates, Well I Wonder, A Rush And A Push And The Land Is Ours, I Want The One I Can't Have, Paint A Vulgar Picture, Accept Yourself, (...the list could go on for a long time).

Favourite Morrissey songs: November Spawned a Monster, Interesting Drug, Sunny, Break Up the Family, Boxers, Speedway, Whatever Happens I Love You, Have-A-Go Merchant, Jack the Ripper, Pashernate Love, Tomorrow, My Love Life,...

I've seen Morrissey live more times than I can count and would do pretty much anything to be able to go back in time and see the Smiths live in the 80s... :/

And I know a lot more about the moors murders and british kitchen sink dramas of the 60s than I would like to

So in short the answer is YES ;)

Wow, that's so cool. Don't know too many Morrissey songs. I only know: Everyday Is Like Sunday, Suedehead, Last of The International Playboys, Irish Blood, English Heart and First of The Gang To Die. You are a diehard fan!! ! Thanks to everyone for posting and voting in the poll. I knew there were fans of The Smiths and Morrissey but not this many!! !! Thanks again.

I bought the Smiths "Singles" CD a long time ago - pretty much liked every song - favorites Big Mouth Strikes Again and How Soon is Now but I like just about all of it. But never really got into any of their other albums, Where should I start?

Mostly beyond that one CD, my familiarity is more with Johnny Marr as New Order is my all time favorite band and he did the "Electronic" side project with Bernard Sumner.

I'd start with The Queen is Dead, then go to The World Won't Listen, then the compilation album Hatful of Hollow.

And you need to listen to Rush and a Push off Strangeways. Repeatedly. :) That and Girlfriend in a Coma, which you'll have already on the Singles thingy.

Bona Drag (Morrissey solo rushed together conglomeration of singles, b-sides and new-at-the-time stuff) is a strangely compelling album. There was a time, about 5 years ago, I couldn't stop listening to it in my car. It's got some very strange, quirky arrangements and is nothing like Your Arsenal or Vauxhall and I which are slightly rockier.

But yep, the Singles I&II collection is a very good place to start. Is that the singles collection you meant, ScrewyWabbit? or the one with Charles Hawtrey on the cover?

One of the funniest Morrissey moments I think, is the last few seconds of Disappointed:

This is the last song I will ever sing (crowd: Yaaaay!)
No I've changed my mind again (crowd: Ohhhhh!) Goodnight, and thankyou.

Always had great resonance for me. "And people who are weaker than you and I, they take what they want from life."

I always really liked Strangeways, but it is considered weak.

The Smiths were my "coming out" band in the 80's, and I still go back to them when I need a trip down 'amnesia lane!'

The Queen is Dead is certainly their strongest album, but I have a huge soft spot for Louder than Bombs and Hatful of Hollow.
