hmm...the ideas come from all over
There's an old coffee table book about propaganda posters...don't remember the book name, but the Author was named Zeman (how AS is that?...;)
They Cylon poster came from the first episode of BSG, where they made their point about who was who with the subtlety of a 2 by 4...;)
The airship poster is from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow...I modeled the robot ships..

What about the opening ceremony for the Beijing 2008 Olympics? There isn't a finer contemporary example of social realism in performance art. Thousands of red Chinese moving as one macro-organism; a humble tribute to the glory and vision of the Chairman.

Och, definitely! I remember I was watching it and I thought it's like Leni's movie.

Ok, let's see it again (there's no 2?):

I find propaganda posters interesting my favourite ones are form Soviet Russia and form the DPRK. I always find it interesting about the message they are trying to send its intresting the psychology of the images that they use. Plus they look good as well  I once saw a book about Soviet posters.I will have to get it one day.

yeah, one of my less popular tastes.
i saw Laibach live once & it was great.

i also have a thing for Chinese Propaganda Posters--but that's rather a different aesthetic.

Slideshow of North Korean Art

I love the music of Shostakovich since it expresses such despair and alienation. Soviet artists were under tremendous pressure to play a constructive role in supporting the government, the party, and uplifting people's spirits to encourage greater effort and greater production. Shostakovich 7th symphony was a tribute to the resilience of his hometown of Leningrad during the nazi seige and inspired great patriotic fervor.

His eagerly awaited 8th symphony is a depressive masterpiece that did not meet the expectations of the government:

The second movement of his tenth symphony is believed to be a musical interpretation of the fear and chaos created by Stalin:
