For example, I first heard Total Eclipse of the Heart when I was six, and immediately loved it. I also had "We Belong" by Pat Benatar on my iPod LONG before it was in Ricky Bobby. I really enjoy the hokey love songs like In Your Eyes (Peter Gabriel) and Everything I Do, I Do It For You (Bryan Adams). Anyone else have any?

Would Suzy Quatro count? LOL

anyhow.... non manyly songs...

I don't actually equate music with "manliness" or "non-manliness"... that said I don't listen to bette midler or like Celine Dion.

I do have Eva Cassidy and Billie Holliday CD's by the same regard. Though I wouldn't call anything strictly feminine or masculine. The former I don't like the music, the latter I do.

I'm sure if I loved the ballads more than the melodies of Eva and Billie that I might go for Bette or Celine. But I do not. That said "Beast of Burden" isn't bad.

so anyways... to answer a question I'm not entirely sure of... favourite song by a female artists:

Dream a Little Dream - Mamas & The Papas

and Walk on the Wild Side is Lou Reed.

Ex Velvet Underground. <-- an awesome band. Never had much to do with Lou Reed as a soloist so can't recommend any other great songs. But a tour through Velvet Underground catalogue is ALWAYS a treat.

It's nice to see a 'music' thread where I actually know many of the artists and songs.

Thanks, it takes me forever to remember all the artists. I'm glad I'm not the only one with a taste for the older groups, it just seems like they actually enjoyed making music.

I'm into anime, sometimes I'll listen to some of the more happy-go-lucky-girly songs from Japanese artists. I'll admit right now, I've got "Happy Material" from Mahou Sensei Negima and "Motteke! Sailor Fuku" from Lucky Star on my iPod.

yeah, in my case it's age related as well - i can't keep up with who's who in recent music and just stick to what i know. there was a boom in live music in this country (australia) in the late seventies and eighties and a great many venues opened to cater for it...i think that may be true of britain too, but apparently there are very limited venues for live bands to play in Oz these days.

Any song by Lights or Aly & AJ...

And I also seem to take a liking to some of the music of Celtic Woman
