THE FIVE MAIN REASONS WHY I WANT TO AUDITION FOR AMERICAN IDOL

By Jason Lundgren

It’s no secret why I “secretly” love American Idol. Sure, it’s hokey, banal, syrupy, and shallow, however, at least some of the performers on that were actually giving their all while they were up on stage. Henceforth, American Idol is one of my all-time guilty pleasures. Even the ones that didn’t make the auditions have more talent than most of the artists on the current Top 40. One of my favorite parts of Idol is the auditions because even the worst ones are the most intriguing to watch. The point of this blog I am going with is the top five reasons of why I want to audition for Idol. Even though I am far from they want in the American Idol, I just want to prove that I am at least deserving of having a shot of performing live. So here are my five reasons….

5. A dream duet with my ultimate celebrity crush—A lot of you guys know that my ultimate celebrity crush is Linda Cardellini. Not only is she an attractive and talented actress, she also has a beautiful and strong singing voice. She sang on Grandma’s Boy (“Push It”), The Unsaid (“T’aint Nobody’s Business”), and the 2007 Hot for Hollywood festival (“Bad Medicine”, “Physical”). Ever since I saw her on the cult classic TV show “Freaks and Geeks” ten years ago, I could not take my eyes off of her. I use my letter tried to write to her, revise the letter, and share it with the rest of the world how I feel about Linda. Don’t worry; the letter is for her work as an actress, not a creepy I LOVE YOU letter like most sickosclaim to be fans would write. If I give out at least a good audition, then I could ask the judges if I can sing with the brunette beauty herself on the show. Many of you may only know her as Velma from the Scooby Doo films, but I think she can be much more than that. If we happen to perform together, it’ll most likely be medley of each of our favorite songs and then a whole song we do a duet on.

4. Better my chances of being in a cover band—Even if I don’t make it to the Hollywood round, I think I may have more opportunities in music like being in a cover band. I have always wanted to be in a cover band, most likely either a classic rock band or an ‘80s band, so I could use my AI audition to my advantage.

3. A chance of a lifetime to perform live in front of thousands people—It has been one of my big dreams in life is to perform in front of thousands of people. Whenever I get a crowd going whether it would be singing at a karaoke bar or performing at Safeco Field, I am always going to feel like I’m at the top of the world and perform like I know I can.

2. A chance of history—Unless you count Scott McIntyre from the last season of AI (he was the blind pianist), have you seen any disabled contestants that get pass the audition round? Since I have some form of mild Autism, I could be the first person with a clinical mental disability/disorder to be on the show. Who says there’s no opportunity in music for people with disabilities?

1. Family redemption—My cousin Janaia, who auditioned for Season Six of American Idol in Seattle, did not make it to the Hollywood round because she didn’t fit the fold of being a superstar. Not only that, she didn’t get to be on TV. What were those people thinking whey they rejected her? She had a tremendously beautiful singing voice and I believe she is beautiful the way she is. Susan Boyle can make millions of YouTubers inspire to become singers with her rendition of “I Dream of a Dream”, but Janaia was denied because of her looks. It’s just too bad that people behind American Idol don’t see it that way. That is the main reason why I want to audition for American Idol is to show people that as long as you believe you can sing well with your song selections you can get into the second round. Who knows, maybe I could be the American male equivalent of Susan Boyle just to show that having great looks isn’t everything.

Since I am also twenty seven years old, I have one year of eligibility from the deadline to enter Idol so I hope that in the next six to eight months that one of the audition spots for the tenth season of the most famous singing talent show of all time will be in Seattle, WA. As I stated earlier, I have a million to one shot of being on the show which is a very long shot. I am also not getting any younger so I might as well have the opportunity while it is presented because I had two chances of auditioning for the show. If I do get rejected, I will take it like a man and move on whatever takes me to my current path rather than cry and whine like most of the AI rejects. If I do make it, then I am going to stay true to myself as always and not let fame change me like certain people I know of.

Personally, I can’t wait for the ninth season of American Idol because it could be Simon Cowell’s last which will be awesome and stupid at the same time.
