Sigur Ros, (An Icelandic ambient/orchestral rock group, one of their album covers is my profile pic.) my favorite band, is on indefinite hiatus.

Why couldn't it have been Nickelback or Three Days Grace? I'm hoping against hope that this isn't permanent. Their music is absolutely beautiful, and seeing that they broke up when they were supposed to be releasing a new album this year just felt like a hard kick in the chest.

Not meant as a rhetorical question, but would you guys prefer a band to split or end up making albums that hit a new low each time they are released? It's kind of a tricky one to answer. Hurts seeing favourite bands split and it hurts seeing favourite bands stop making good music.

At least you have the hope of a reunion, until a crazed 'fan' shoots one of them, or they start dying of overdoses and old age.

But HAL_9000 is right, its actually more tragic IMO when they outlive their creative spark and start churning out crap that's so weak and lame you're ashamed to tell anyone you ever liked them. Or a key member leaves and is replaced with someone whose input just doesn't have the same combustive blend. Its always better to go out at the top of your game (the hard part sometimes is knowing exactly when that is). Otherwise you risk 'jumping the shark' and end up just embarrassing yourself and your fans.

As much as I like them, they seem to be making the same album over and over again (you wouldn't want them ending up like AC/DC would you?). They had a good run. I'll be looking forward to side-projects.
