Like preferring 50s rock and roll when you're 18.

I don't like most modern music. Mika and Arctic Monkeys are good and that's all. I prefer to listen to 70s music most of the time, many of the songs are wonderful and repetitive and have good instrumentation. I also like music from the 60s and 80s, and SOME 50s and 90s.

I also enjoy heavy metal and hard rock from the 70s to today.

I LOVE Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan, even though I'm 19.

i like anything that i see wonderful talent in, no matter what era it came from.

i do not hear music from the position of fashion or style. i hear music with respect to the musical talent of the composer, and to a lesser extent, the technical quality of the performer.

I like to seek out new artists - so while my peers are still listening to artists who were around when we were in high school & college ('70s & '80s), I find myself listening mostly to artists who have emerged in the last ten years. I don't know how that relates to my being on the Spectrum. It is probably more related to my continuing desire to experience new things. (Just as I continue to read new books, rather than read the same ones over & over again.)

But I also have a Special Interest in female vocalists. So even as the artists that I listen to change, I continue to look for new artists who have many of the qualities that I have always loved.

According to last.fm, most of my "neighbors" are much younger than I am.

I don't know exactly why most people get "locked in" to listening to the artists of their late teens & early twenties. I do know that people who sell pianos use music that was popular when their customer was about 18 to demo the instrument. Maybe people simply associate that music with their youth.

While I liked a lot of the music that was being recording during those years of my life, I can't say that I liked much that was "popular" at the time. And I also liked early jazz & popular music from the 1930s. A piano salesman would have a difficult time figuring out what to play for me.

For me, I don't think it simply comes down to whether or not the music I like is typical for my age. In large part, I think my musical tastes have always been atypical for any age. There is definitely an interplay between my Special Interest & my desire to experience new music.

I listen to retro stuff like The Beatles, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, The Temptations, Gloria Gaynor, and Journey.

I also listen to a lot of classical music, especially Saint-Saens.

Absolutely.

I first got into a couple songs my parents played, then classical music. In my early 20's I listened to 1930's and 40's music almost exclusively and now I'm back to classical, with a bit of everything else thrown in.

The only thing I don't listen to much is pop music. I like the abovementioned, as well as 80's music, soul, hip-hop and rap. Oh, and if it's got a great bass line I'm almost guaranteed to love it - funk being the prime example.. :D

I'm 35 and I listen to The Kinks, The Who, The Small Faces and The Beatles. I also like the other artists who played a part in the 1960s British Invasion. I wouldn't have it, any other way. I don't really care for today's hottest music, or Top 40.

I just like anything that appeals to my ears. I'm going through a MASSIVE disco phase at the moment... I love clavinets and string sections :D

My absolute favorite genre of music is Bubblegum Dance. If you're not familiar with it, imagine an entire genre of music that sounds similar to Aqua's "Barbie Girl". A lot of people on Youtube comment that Bubblegum Dance is "for little kids", so I guess I might be getting too old for it. I've tried listening to more "mature-sounding" techno, but deep down inside I'll always be a Bubblegum Dancer.

Not much of what I listen to is what I'd call 'age specific'. I'm a big fan of music from the 70's, but that's not uncommon with teens these days.

a lot of the music i listen to have roots in the 70's and 60's such as the kinks, david bowie, bob dylan, and queen.
the modern artists i listen to are mainly indie or jazzy.

Yeah...I come here (among other reasons) to hear new stuff. I know the Beatles were geniuses, but lawsy I am dog tired of them...;)

I really don't know. Is modern alt-rock associated with a particular age group? As far as I know it isn't, or at least not a very narrow one.
