Paul McCartney, INCLUDING the post-Beatles and Wings stuff--not quite so sure about the last 5 years, but, yeah...

And Van Halen. I don't care WHAT you say, Van Hagar is awesome. Uh, I meant Van Halen. ;)

david clayton-thomas with the original blood, sweat and tears band. they rocked and rolled with style and finesse and brassy blattiness.

john belushi/dan ackroyd with the blues brother band. they seriously rocked and rolled. nobody could replace john, he was a visceral force of nature.

"Mr. Five-by-Five" [aka jimmy rushing] and the count basie band- WOW! those guys could blow the walls down.

trumpeter doc severinson and the tonight show band- versatile and a blast.
doris day/les brown orchestra- they perfectly complemented one another.
john kay and steppenwolf- what more is there to say?
the beatles- ditto.
commander cody and the lost planet airmen- a country-rock romp.
ivie anderson and duke ellington orchestra- shoutin' the blues with elegance.
sister rosetta tharp- nobody did "trouble in mind" like her.
spike jones and his city slickers- there'd be no doctor d without 'em.
the firehouse 5 plus 2- dixieland and ragtime like none other.
too many others to list here.

My favorite singer of all time has to be Maynard James Keenan (Tool), everything he does just takes me to another world while I'm listening to it.

Those in the first list are my favourite artists in general; those in the second are my favourite singers that could be included in the first, had you not have specified favourite singers (so, had you have specified guitarists rather than singers, Zappa would be in the second list); those in the third are a few more singers I love but aren't among my favourite artists in general (often because they haven't produced enough music, or at least I haven't heard enough).

Art Ensemble of Chicago
Derek Bailey
Glenn Branca
Don Cherry
John Coltrane
Earth
Moondog
Harry Partch
Pharoah Sanders
Sun City Girls
Sun Ra
Sunn O)))
Steve Reich
Edgard Varèse
Yes
La Monte Young
Frank Zappa
John Zorn

Captain Beefheart
Bob Dylan
Jandek
Yoko Ono
Mike Patton
The Residents (I love the main vocalist - I can't specify who it is, because they're all anonymous)
Tiny Tim

Kate Bush
Exuma
Gabby La La
Jeanne Lee
Joanna Newsom
William Shatner
Amy Winehouse
Howlin' Wolf

To my husband's unending mystification:

They Might Be Giants and Gary Stadler

And the ones he agrees with wholeheartedly:

Rush and The Beatles

There are very few bands or singers I like well enough to listen to almost anything they've done. And there are but a handful that have made a full album I liked almost from start to finish. So I assume that anyone who has that distinction qualifies as a favorite. Other bands and singers, such as Queen, Pink Floyd, John Denver, The Kinks, and others, come very close. Really, I just have a lot of favorites at all different levels of favoritude.

And the jury's still out of one band, because their music is so hard for me to get my hands on... The Alfee. So far I have liked a LOT of their work, despite the language barrier.

I like a lot of different music & artist but my favorite rite now is Miranda Cosgrove. Yes she's the star on that iCarly show but I don't watch much. She released a CD recently & Miranda has an amazingly beautiful voice & her songs are much much more wholesome(for lack of a better word here) than most anything I hear on the radio. She also seems to be one of the best role models/teen idols out there rite & that counts for something
