Daniel Johnston- "the story of an artist"
It's haunting. Reminds me of "vincent"
"everyone in friends and family saying, hey get a job, why do you only do that only, why are you so odd?"

This guy is my latest obsession. I recently saw a documentary about him called "the devil and daniel johnston"

I did a search here and was surprised that no one had mentioned him before.
His story is fascinating.

album - ocean machine - biomech
song - seventh wave

first time I heard this song I burst into tears, at the words "you're never alone, even when you're alone"

For me it was more the sound, it was music greater in scope, texture, and feeling to anything I'd ever experienced. I cried with pure joy.

this song has always made me feel funny inside...

BRIGHT EYES LYRICS

"Landlocked Blues"
(feat. Emmylou Harris)

If you walk away, I’ll walk away
First tell me which road you will take
I don’t want to risk our paths crossing some day
So you walk that way, I’ll walk this way

And the future hangs over our heads
And it moves with each current event
Until it falls all around like a cold steady rain
Just stay in when it’s looking this way

And the moon’s laying low in the sky
Forcing everything metal to shine
And the sidewalk holds diamonds like the jewelry store case
They argue walk this way, no, walk this way

And Laura’s asleep in my bed
As I’m leaving she wakes up and says
“I dreamed you were carried away on the crest of a wave
Baby don’t go away, come here”

And there’s kids playing guns in the street
And ones pointing his tree branch at me
So I put my hands up I say “enough is enough,
If you walk away, I’ll walk away”
And he shot me dead

I found a liquid cure
From my landlocked blues
It’ll pass away like a slow parade
It’s leaving but I don’t know how soon

And the world’s got me dizzy again
You think after 22 years I’d be used to the spin
And it only feels worse when I stay in one place
So I’m always pacing around or walking away
I keep drinking the ink from my pen
And I’m balancing history books up on my head
But it all boils down to one quotable phrase
If you love something, give it away

A good woman will pick you apart
A box full of suggestions for your possible heart
But you may be offended and you may be afraid
But don’t walk away, don’t walk away

We made love on the living room floor
With the noise in the background of a televised war
And in the deafening pleasure I thought I heard someone say
“If we walk away, they’ll walk away”

But greed is a bottomless pit
And our freedom’s a joke
We’re just taking a piss
And the whole world must watch the sad comic display
If you’re still free start running away
Cause we’re coming for you!

I’ve grown tired of holding this pose
I feel more like a stranger each time I come home
So I’m making a deal with the devils of fame
Saying “let me walk away, please”
You’ll be free child once you have died
From the shackles of language and measurable time
And then we can trade places, play musical graves
Till then walk away, walk away

So I’m up at dawn
Putting on my shoes
I just want to make a clean escape
I’m leaving but I don’t know where to
I know I’m leaving but I don’t know where to

:star: Anyone ever heard this one?

I don't cry easily but there is one song that invariably makes me cry, the theme song to "The Last Unicorn" sung by America.

When the last eagle flies
Over the last crumbling mountain
And the last lion roars
At the last dusty fountain
In the shadow of the forest
Though she may be old and worn
They will stare unbelieving
At the Last Unicorn

When the first breath of winter
Through the flowers is icing
And you look to the north
And a pale moon is rising
And it seems like all is dying
And would leave the world to mourn
In the distance hear her laughter
Of the Last Unicorn
I'm alive! I'm alive!

When the last moon is cast
Over the last star of morning
And the future is past
Without even a last desparate warning
Then look into the sky where through
The clouds a path is formed
Look and see her how she sparkles
It's the Last Unicorn
I'm alive! I'm alive!

Silent Night (Christmas carol)

It always reminds me of the WW1 Christmas Truce, it being used as the soundtrack for a movie I saw about it.

Anything by Paris Hilton.

Not because she is so great and deserving of 20 Grammies, which she is

No, her music reminds me of the chance I threw away when I destroyed my sex tape and decided against launching a musical career.

Quite a lot of Rap that comes out and makes No. 1. It's freaking insane how such badly organised songs can beat the greats, it's saddening.

On behalf of my country, I apologize for this.

"Bright Eyes" by Cat Stevens makes me weep every time I hear it. Pachelbel's "Canon in D Minor" is also a good one for bringing a lump to my throat.

10000 days made me cry on say 4 occasions, lateralus changed my life, and aenema taught me how to play guitar...

Touches me so deeply.

Currently playing Tool - The pot (10000 days)

The music that can make me tearful shows my rather eclectic and self-indulgent taste, and also my age. I apologise in advance for some of my choices.

Classical and opera

- 4th movement from Mahler's Symphony No. 5 (theme music for the film "Death in Venice")
- "Song to the Moon" from Rusalka by Dvořák

Musicals

- Les Misérables "On my own" and "A little fall of rain"

Rock and Pop, etc

- The Alan Parsons Project "Don't let it show"
- Joy Division "Love will tear us apart"
- The Smiths "Please, please, please let me get what I want"
- Sinéad O'Connor "Nothing compares 2U"
- Carpenters "Goodbye to love"
- Chris de Burgh "In a country churchyard"

Several of the artists died young and in tragic circumstances. I think this is a factor in making the music sad. This would certainly apply to Eva Cassidy.

Just about anything from Tom Waits' collaborations with Robert Wilson, mostly from "Alice".

Les temps de cherises, French popular song writtwn in occasion of the commune of i871

you can find the music in internet
