I'm sure that many of you gays (and gals as he does have quite a few female fans) know all about the adventures of the famius Belgen boy reporter Tintin, and his cohorts Snowy (aka Millu) Captain Archbuld Haddock (and the rest) from the 1990's TV show...

But how many of you have read the books by Geoges 'Herge' Remi? They are far more adult than ANY other version!

I don't have time to go into any detail about them but I was just wondering if they are any other WP users who read them.

I'll return later on today and tell you all about my top ten Tintin books

Goodbye Till Next Time

Yes, I love the Tintin books. Between us my 10 year old son and I have all of them! :D ( except one of the very first and the last unfinished one, anyway ).

I love the Tintin books too. I still have my collection from when I was about 7 years old. For years I'd thought my collection was complete until I learnt about Tintin in the Land of the Soviets and Tintin in the Congo. I still haven't got round to buying those.

In terms of political satire and jokes about drunkenness the books are perhaps fairly adult. But in case anyone here is wondering, Tintin does not seem to have a girlfriend in the books either.

I only dimly remember the cartoons. From what I remember, in some cases the stories in the cartoons could sometimes be significantly different to the stories in the books they were based on.

I'm going to make you feel sooo jeleus!! !! !

I have ALL of the Tintin books, and before you ask yes I do also have the facsimes of the old versions!! !! !! !!

as for the ones that are yet to be tranlated (namely the black and white versions of 'The Broken Ear' 'The Black Island' 'King Ottokars Secptre' and 'The Crab With the Golden Claws' plus the 1950 version of 'Tintin in the Land of Back Gold') I'm going to translate them myself.

I may cheat a little (with some of them) however as the later versions have already been done, so this makes my task a lot easyar!! !

That said however the only things I'm missing are the following....

The short stories that appered in Le Pette Vagtime in between adventures plus the Black and white version of 'Tintin in the Land of Black Gold'

Most of the Le Sour strips (black and white)

The bits that were cut out of (or changed from when the books came out) the Tintin magzaine versions of 'Explouers on the Moon' and 'The Calculus Affair'

To the best of my knolage they have never been reprinted!! !

While I'm on the subject I'm also looking for the competed version of 'Tintin and Alph Art' I can't remember who did it but I know one had been done and from what I hear it looks very good.

As for my fave Tintin Books they are as follows....

1/2 Cigars of the Phoroh/The Blue Lotus (I much perfer the 1934-and 1936 verisons as they are both things of beuaty, in fact as a very wise man once said, they are "Very Good, too good for kids")

3/ The Black Island (1943, well I am a Scot! the 1966 versiondoes not quite cut it for me)

4. Tintin in the Congo (1946 version, Yes I know it's not at all PC but it's wonderfully entertaining in spite of that, or maybe becouse of it...)

5/6. The Seven Crysal Balls/Prisoners of the Sun (I like them as they are one of Herges best stories)

7. The Castfore Emareld (nuff said!)

8. The Calculus Affair

9/10 Destintion Moon/Exploers on the Moon (those were in fact the first ever Tintin books that I ever saw! I have many fond memeres reading them as a child. As at the time I was very much into the Moon landings I even then was amazed at how close Herge got to getting all his facts right, I'll always remember feeling very smug when I first read the bit when Captain Haddock tried to take his tabbco and wiskey on bourd the rocket and was told he was not allowed to do so. Even then I knew that it is forbben for spacemen to do this And when he went and did this anyway seeing the after effets on him was also amousing as I KNEW THAT THAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU DID IT IN REAL LIFE!! !! Most likely he'd ave died but that's just nit picking....)

Goodbye Till Next Time.

P.S. Also I'm missing The Secret Ray' (which is the first ever Jo, Zette and Jocko story but I sometimes see it come up on Amazon and E-bay from time to time so I may see if I can get one)

I don't own and of the 'Quick and Flupke' books but I may look into getting some in the near future!

It was a mistake on my part as

Tintin is (inspite of what some may think) NOT gay!! !! !!

He's just not found the right girl (yet)

After all Herge (not to memchen Father Wallez) wouldn't have any of it.

Goodbye Till Next Time.

zOMG, I'm sooo jealous!

Still, life goes on. Here's my top ten (I think - it's a long time since I've read them):

1. Tintin in Tibet
2. The Blue Lotus
3. Cigars of the Pharaoh
4. Prisoners of the Sun
5. The Crab with the Golden Claws
6. The Secret of the Unicorn
7. King Ottokar's Sceptre
8. The Broken Ear
9. Flight 714
10. The Calculus Affair

I'd find it easier to list the ones I didn't like so much as a kid: Destination Moon & Explorers on the Moon (too slow) and Tintin in America (too fast).
I found The Castafiore Emerald pretty boring as a kid, but I reread it a few weeks ago, and thought it was quite good.

I read them as a kid, like every french speaking kid back then. But it was a long time ago.

The original name of Snowy isn't "Millu" but "Milou".

So I am. As far as I remember, when I was 8-10, Tintin was my special interest.

Yes, I did indeed have a mild Tintin obsession in my primary school years, and did my best to read every book I could find at both the school library and the municipal library.

Tintin had his shirt off in one of the books (Tintin and the Picaros I think). It made me nervous and red in the face at the time :P

There's a Tintin movie coming out late next year too. It's gonna be a Spielberg AND Peter Jackson film :)

I love the Tintin books.

My favorites were:
King Ottokar's Sceptre
Tintin in Tibet
The Blue Lotus
The Secret of the Unicorn
Red Rackham's Treasure
The Seven Crystal Balls
Prisoners of the Sun
Tintin and the Picaros
The Castafiore Emerald
The Black Island

I never really saw the animated series but I enjoyed it when I did see it.

I can't wait to see the movie when it comes out.
