I use music to settle my brain when it goes off on one. I have been doing this since childhood. If my head is sizzling with stress I can put headphones on, lie down and after about an hour my head is calm.

It is probably my best therapy.

I can also feel/see the music.

Does anyone else find it helps them to disasociate themselves from the crap of the day?

I do the same thing, and I have the luxury of doing it, most hours of the day.

And the crap of preceding days, and from days yet to come.

When listening to music is not an option I find that videogames have a similar but lesser effect.

yes.except, i can't use headphones, i dont like thesound the usicmake when it goes directy into my ear.
i play it in my head, if that makes sense. if im upset, then i imagine one of my flute pieces in my head, and then i can visualise th music and playing it in my head, and i can concentrate on that instead of being upset.

This is where I take advantage of the different types of music. If I'm too energetic and/or just angry, then usually I'll just on heavy metal and headbang, or just play along to it with my guitar.

And whenever I'm tired and stressed, I pretty much do what you do. I prefer a different type of music for that. Ambient, Psychedelic, Relaxing, Expressive, Artistic, etc... then I can use headphones, listen to the CD for an hour on bed, then when it's done, I'm always happier.

I'm not the best when it comes to visualizing the music, but I can sure feel it.

I listen to all kinds of music and adjoin it to certain scenarios in my head, be they imaginary or realistic. Music helps me to envision things better.

I spend most of the day listening to music. Music helps me a lot when I'm stressed, upset ect about stuff

I listen to my favorite songs while pacing back and forth, or while riding in a car. It feels good. I do this several times each day.
