Can anyone recommend the best Ennio Morricone songs for me to put on a CD for my dad? I said today that I'd try to make him a compilation. He's a big old western movie fan.

I only know of Ennio's songs that were in my favourite movie Kill Bill (And I like the songs and listen to them from time to time).

Soooo, help me come up with a good playlist? :)

Morricone is one of the very greatest.

Generally acclaimed the best or Morricone is his soundtrack for the mission.
Less well known is what he wrote for the Marco Polo miniseries but I personally like that a lot.

My favourites are L'Uomo Dell'armonica (Man With A Harmonica), Per Qualche Dollaro In Piu (For A Few Dollars More) and Il Tramonto (The Sunset).

I LOVE Morricone!

Morricone is great!

Now, some of the scores I would recommend aren't from the Old Westerns.

Some of my favorites are:

Once Upon A Time In America
Once Upon A Time In The West
The Mission
The Legend of 1900
The Untouchables (Machine Gun Lullaby)
Cinema Paradiso
Il Papa Buono
Malena
Bugsy

There's a load of Ennio Morricone's music on YouTube if you want to surf around and find what you like.

Of the music not already mentioned, I would recommend the themes to A Fistful of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More.

And of course that other one from The Good, Bad and the Ugly

If your dad is into old westerns generally, I would recommend the theme to The Magnificent Seven by John Williams. That piece always makes me think "old western", even though it's not much older than A Fistful of Dollars.
