Zappa live in Manchester 1979

the best unofficial recording i've ever heard. Sounds much better than a lot of official live albums. Much of it was taken from a board tape, the rest of the show is supplied by a rough, but listenable audience recording of the show.
That part is also the best part of the show, although it's all good really. But this part is kind of like a long jam session.
Hell, Frank even says before it starts: "it's been a long night, me and the boys, we are just going to enjoy ourselves a bit now" (paraphrased). They launched into the evergreen "Pound For A Brown" which quickly went off into uncharted territory with one of the first appearances (if not THE first) of a to-this-date unreleased Zappa composition, followed by a brief skeletal rendition of "The Deathless Horsie" and the first post-1975 (and second known) performance of "5-5-5" as a long wild jam vehicle for the entire group. One of the best performances of the year. More than makes up for some of the earlier parts being less inspired than what was to come later in the tour (in Germany and in London).
