"Sidewalks of New York," Peerless Quartet, 1926ish Victor recording played on my 1909 Columbia horn-type Graphophone which I restored myself. Love that piano sound & good singing!

I'd never seen this version before.It's a bit hammy, but at least it's a pretty much complete performance of the song. 'Ma Baker' is based on Ma Barker, the matriarch of an American crime family from the Bonnie and Clyde era.

Hauntingly powerful song, spoilt to some degree (speaking personally) by the half-witted performance from the male dancer (whose name is Jeremy Healey, if anyone's interested). Wish someone had just offered him a tenner at the start to clear off for a few minutes.....
