"If Ye Love Me" - Thomas Tallis (1505 – 1585), Tenebrae/Nigel Short.
A four-part motet on:

If ye love me, keep my commandments.
And I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another comforter,
that he may 'bide with you forever;
E'en the sp'rit of truth.

--John 14:15–17

"My Heart's in the Highlands" - Robert Burns (1759-1796), arr. Arvo Pärt; David James (countertenor), Christopher Bowers-Broadbent (organ)

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer -
A-chasing the wild deer, and following the roe; (=ree)
My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North
The birth place of Valour, the country of Worth;
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.

Farewell to the mountains high cover'd with snow;
Farewell to the straths and green valleys below; (=breed dal)
Farewell to the forrests and wild-hanging woods;
Farwell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer
Chasing the wild deer, and following the roe;
My heart's in the Highlands, whereever I go.

"Gentle Morpheus", from Alceste (HWV 45) - Handel (1685 - 1759); Emma Kirkby, Academy of Ancient Music/Christopher Hogwood.

Gentle Morpheus, son of night,
Hither speed thy airy flight!
And his weary senses steep
In the balmy dew of sleep.

That when bright Aurora’s beams
Glad the world with golden streams,
He, like Phoebus, blithe and gay,
May re-taste the healthful day.

--(prob.) Thomas Morell (1703–1784)

"Es Ist ein Ros' entsprungen", Praetorius (1571 – 1621); The Gesualdo Six at Ely Cathedral.

Es ist ein Ros entsprungen,
aus einer Wurzel zart,
wie uns die Alten sungen,
von Jesse kam die Art
Und hat ein Blümlein bracht
mitten im kalten Winter,
wohl zu der halben Nacht.

Das Röslein, das ich meine,
davon Isaias sagt,
ist Maria die reine
die uns das Blümlein bracht.
Aus Gottes ew'gem Rat
hat sie ein Kind geboren
Welches uns selig macht.

O Jesu, bis zum Scheiden
aus diesem Jamerthal
Laß dein Hilf uns geleiten
hin in der Engel Saal,
In deines Vaters Reich,
da wir dich ewig loben:
o Gott, uns das verleih!

I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for somethin' to help me burn out bright

I'm looking for a complication
Looking cause I'm tired of trying
I'll make my way back home and learn to fly :heart: :heart: :heart:
