Couldn't find a thread. Thought I'd start one. Here are some of my favourites. BTW, youtube has a paucity of choices for classical, many would not be my first pick of performer/orchestra and the sound levels are all over the place.

I've got plenty of favorites, but I find myself liking this more than anything:

My favorite piece is Rachmaninoff's Vocalise (Op. 34/No. 14). My favorite performance of it is Zoltan Kocsis' solo piano arrangement, but I haven't found a good version of it on YouTube. The one I found cuts something like 2 minutes off. However, I consider this version by Itzhak Perlman a close second:

This version makes me want to learn violin just so I can play this piece (or at least attempt it).

I like it best when it's arranged for winds... though it's usually done as a piano solo. This one has both a flute and clarinet accompanied by the guitar :D

I like Zez Confrey's Novelty pieces.

and the most popular:

I wonder where I could download orchestral versions of confrey's works such as the above... if anyone could help ;)

I listen to a lot of classical, but mostly modern experimental classical. Classical music from before about 1880 isn't so interesting to me.

Some favourites:

Edgard Varèse - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TStutMsLX2s

Frank Zappa - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mA4aZtx7mRw

Harry Partch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adx6N6qGEjE

Henry Cowell - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tYvjNHcYqY

Igor Stravinsky - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgiGj1KcZlc

John Cage - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9J3WpovGDtc

La Monte Young - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfZzz58VUaw

Lou Harrison - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLLhdFAmNMs

Steve Reich - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ie3sVmiVuUQ

Terry Riley - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbp_LBONP2A

Toru Takemitsu - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CZEZxo6bBM

.

uncle meat (the yellow shark enemble version) is possibly the most incredible piece of music i have ever heard. i do not like to watch the people playing it in video clips because it debases my experience of the music.

i listen to that song on my sound system in very high quality in the dark with no visuals except for the imagery that is inculcated in my mind by the almost miraculous turns of melody and timbre i hear.

anyway, here is a nice piece by billy joel (you may be surprised)

Surprised I am.

Althrough this is kinda boring imo. I prefer Billy's Root Beer Rag. One of my favorites of his songs.

I know these might seem generic choices but they are still my favorites.
