So I feel there's a LOT of similarity between Michael Jackson's "Heal the World" and the Gundam 0080 ending theme, "Distant Memories." I'd heard the Gundam 0080 ED before hearing the MJ song and immediately thought that they were similar. While MJ's "Heal the World" is a nice song, I do like the Gundam 0080 ED better.

What do you think, happenstance, or did MJ knowingly be influenced by/copy this song? He did like a lot of kids stuff, and he had a lot of money, so Japanese cartoons wouldn't be out of the question for him to like. Even so, one of his producers could have been an anime fan or Japanese, and yeah...

What do you think?

Sorry. It sounds nothing like "Heal The World". MJ's song is sung in sections, that is, short vocal - break - short vocal - break - short vocal - break, etc. The Japanese song has this pedantic tyoicsl type of balladry without much deference, if you will, to specific song arrangement. The Japanese vocal is rather long winded and follows along the chord progression without those important recognizable breaks.
