Same here, the 90's was metal's silver era in my opinion. There were so many hard choices for my top 3.

Yeah, though I reckon the eighties were pretty awesome too and would have been an exciting time to be a metalhead with so many great thrash albums and the roots of extreme metal all coming into place. So many metal bands had such an inspired and authentic (non-watered down or non-rehashed) sound.
It makes you wonder if metal will ever reach those golden years again. I’d say probably not since every newer subgenre that’s taken place (nu-metal, metalcore, deathcore, the ‘djent’ Meshuggah clones) seems to not be up my alley at all.

Associating djent with genres like nu-metal, metalcore and deathcore is pretty out of proportion in my eyes and doesn't even make sense at all.

I was simply listing relatively newer subgenres in the metal world that I personally dislike or weren’t at all down my alley, djent being one of them. I never said that they all were somehow related.

I think Meshuggah have influenced a new generation of bands, not that it's a bad thing. "Djent" is just a tag conceived by the media to make it sound "hip" to the media or scene kids.

I'd love to contribute to this, but my CD collection isn't nearly filled out enough yet.
