I'm a big fan of world music ie anything that's not western pop music, especially music from India and the surrounding countries, various parts of Africa (I'm not sure which country is which, but I can recognise African music when I hear it.) And I like chillout and electronic music with ethnic influences. Is anyone else a fan?
Also does anyone have recommendations for different genres and bands?
Here are some of my favourite songs and artists/bands:

If you can count J-pop/J-rock then yeah. I also enjoy the traditional chinese/japanese music as well.

Also may not count, but Celtic and "Bardic/Old Tyme Tavern" music.

This vid shows what I can mean by bardic style music.

I quite like the first 2 videos, especially the sample of the woman's voice in the first one.

Unfortunately I don't know much about World Music but I could name a few 'chillout' and ambient things by Aphex Twin which you might enjoy.
* Selected Ambient Works 85-92. [I strongly recommend this.]
*Selected Ambient Works Volume 2
*Flim
*On
*Girl / Boy Song
*Nannou
*Nannou 2
*IZ-US
*4

(I would upload the videos if I could. )

I'm glad you like it. I thought maybe the drum patterns would be a bit much, personally I love them, but I can see how they won't be to everyones' taste.

I love world/ international music.

Some of my favorite world music bands/performers are:

Natascha Atlas, Jai Uttal, Oojami, Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan, Deep Forest, Cheb Mami, Francoise Atlan, and Samite.

I grew up with a lot of French music albums, so I have a soft spot for such modern and retro French performers/bands such as Yann Tiersen, Mathieu Chedid, Charles Trenet, Sergei Gainsbourg, Vanessa Paradis, and Juliette Greco.

I'm also getting into tango music, ie. Astor Piazzolla, Gotan Project, Glover Gill

Gotan Project: Diferente

Deep Forest and Peter Gabriel

Ooh, I like that song. :D I think it would sound better if the woman's voice was lower-pitched though, her voice doesn't fit the song for me.

I love music in other languages, most of mine is. I don't get what you mean by "world" music, but this definitely isn't Western pop.

I'm a sucker for so-called "ethnic" music, especially African and Native American, though I also enjoy Middle Eastern, East Asian, and Celtic stuff. Glad to see that I'm not alone.

I personally really like Afro Celt Sound System. The music in a lot of ways reminds me of the Myst games, for some reason.

One of my favorites off their first album, Sound Magic:

One of my favorites off their second album, Release:

If you want to know about Gypsy music, I can share loads. Otherwise, I'm not that knowledgeable, but I like it when I hear it.

Here's a pretty well-known band.

I've always liked Central/Eastern European folk music, and their Folk/Punk Crossover stuff as well.

Here's Vágtázó Halottkémek:

...Live in Budapest:

and Grandpierre Attila's, more traditional band, Vágtázó Csodaszarvas:

No to mention a bit of Turkish Prog:

Edip Akbayram:

Selda Bagcan:

John Berberian and the Middle East Ensemble:

About as basic as Turkish Folk music can get:

I dunno I kind of fell out of the habit of looking for new "World" stuff, I was more dedicated a few years ago when I was learning to play the mandolin. some random things from my YouTube favourites list:

this is from the documentary Throw Down Your Heart:

I don't know much about Indian music but I know that Zakir Hussain (tabla) and U. Srinivas (mandolin) are considered masters of their respective instruments:

some cool free downloads, pretty much all west African as I recall: http://ethnomusic.podomatic.com/

also check out old episodes of Andy Kershaw's radio shows, there must be some online.
