My first CD I ever bought was Green Day's Dookie (don't laugh) in 2005.

Well, let's see.

The first album I ever bought was probably KISS Alive II. This would've been back in 1978 or 1979. Can't remember.

The first CD was probably Bobby Brown's 'My Prerogative.' Again, I can't remember.

The first DAT (digital audio tape) I bought was David Benoit's 'Every Step Of the Way.'

The first 8-track I bought was either The Cars' 'Candy O' or something called 'Greatest Hits of Metal' with songs by Black Sabbath, Dr. John and Jimi Hendrix.

The first cassette was probably Queen's 'A Night At the Opera.'

It's a shame how I can't really actually recall which each purchase was.

I'm not entirely sure, but it may have been Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album, when I was 15 or so.

I didn't get a CD player till they had been out quite a while. I had a lot of cassettes when I got one for Christmas. The 1st CD I bought was Jesse & The 8th Street Kidz. Jesse Camp was the guy who won MTV's 1st I Wanna be a VJ Contest. I hadn't been able to find it on cassette.

That I bought myself? Probably Mis-Teeq's 'Eye Candy'. Hey, they were popular at the time!

Copshootcop - Consumer Revolt, back in 1990 when I didn't yet have a CD Player to play it in. This was essentially one of the first underground music releases that was released on CD only.

First CD I ever bought? Probably a copy of AC/DC Live, which I was going to give to my dad as a Father's Day present. Somehow, it ended up in my own CD collection. :P Nearly the same thing happened a short while later with a copy of Green Day's "International Superhits", which was supposed to go to my mother.

The first CDs I ever bought for myself though were "Appetite for Destruction" by Guns 'N Roses, "Slippery When Wet" by Bon Jovi, Nirvana's self-titled compilation, and what accidentally turned out to be a clean version of "Disclaimer II" by Seether, all on the same day. As you can tell, I was going through a bit of an 80s hair metal phase, which somewhat clashed with my interest in grunge/post-grunge.

Before I started buying CDs or learned how to acquire music through *ahem* less-legitimate methods, I mainly listened to albums my parents already owned or gave to me, some of my favorites being "Running with Scissors" by Weird Al Yankovic, and the albums "Dookie" and "American Idiot" by Green Day.

I think the first CD I bought was the soundtrack to Return of the Jedi, probably in the mid-80's. My folks purchased a CD player relatively early on. I know for sure I bought my first discman around freshman year of high school, like 1989.
