I'm starting to really get into classical music. So I thought I'd start a little thread for those of you who like classical.
What are you five favourite composers?

Mine are:

1. Vivaldi
2. Ravel
3. Boccherini
4. Paganini
5. Bizet

And probably lots more that I can't remember just now.

I like Vivaldi too, I remember listening to 'Four Seasons' when I was a child.

Favourite Composers: Debussy, Mendelssohn, Rimsky-Korsakov, Puccini, Bellini
Favourite Modern Composers: Ludovico Enaudi, Michael Nyman, Henryk Górecki
Favourite Opera: Madame Butterfly
Favourite Opera singer: Maria Callas

I hope it's OK to put more than five, and change the list a little. I couldn't keep to only five, or put them in order

I like Chopin.
I dislike music whit a text or singer, because I want to be concentrated in the music.
I like it when you hear something and imagine some landscapes or stories.
So I think classic music is good for me.

I tried to get into classical music...it just feels so unemotional to me, like they are playing technical for the sake of playing technical music. Then again, I do listen to prog, and I'm sure many would say the same about my preferred genre.

Isn't that weird, classical music conveys more emotion to me than any other type.

If you think that classical sounds unemotional, then clearly you haven't been listening to the right classical! Sure there are quite a few composers (Brahms comes to mind) who often forgo strong emotional content for greater structure or technicality, but there are also a ton, particularly in the late Romantic era, who basically made it their goal to be as emotional and introspective as possible in their music. A few particularly good examples that come to mind include Tchaikovsky's 6th symphony (particularly the 1st/last movements), Schubert's Winterreise cycle, and Mahler's 2nd (particularly the last 2 movements).

That said I understand completely if you don't like the music, but to call a "genre" that's often defined by emotion 'unemotional' makes me question what exactly you've been listening to!

No particular order...Can't name just five.

Beethoven

Tchaikovsky

Copeland

Orff

I like most classical music.

But I went to a Mahler symphony one time--hated it. I swear it sounded like it was just whole notes and half notes.

Bob Dylan
