Let's be real: the world has lost too many legendary people in the past couple years, including David Bowie, who passed away in early 2016.

Shockingly enough, I never dug very deep into Bowie's work despite being a huge fan of all kinds of music. Granted, I knew some of his more popular songs, such as "Starman", but that was about it. But yesterday, I took it upon myself to listen to "Space Oddity" for the first time.

Only a select few songs have brought chills down my spine upon the first listening, and I'm happy to report that "Space Oddity" did exactly that. With that, my appreciation for Bowie and his work increased ever so slightly.

With all that said, there's no denying how influential a figure Bowie was. New though I am to his work, I can already see why he was such a widely appreciated musician.

May he rest in peace.

Adore him, went to see him in concert twice. Very talented man, he spoke several languages too. My daughter loves him as well, only since she saw him in Labyrinth. I have all his CDs. Life on Mars is my favourite, the new stuff was great too, I loved Earthling.

I am a huge David Bowie fan since my early childhood. The albums "Ziggy Stardust" and "Low" changed my life, they were very influential on me.

Keep on listening. He invented and dabbled in a number of styles and genres.

The "Major Tom" character from "Space Oddity" reappears in "Ashes to Ashes"

I don't know all of his songs, but he is really cool. I love Labyrinth!

Bowie was a genuine artist. I think I only truly appreciated him and his music after he left us.

I love me some David Bowie. Always have, really. He even makes an appearance in my novel, Murder in Rock & Roll Heaven.

To be truthful, I could sit here and write a book about my long term fascination with Bowie; suffice it to say, he was a huge influence on my songwriting and my life.

I almost forgot - - Bowie had had a small role on Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

His "Berlin Trilogy" stuff with Fripp, Eno, Visconti, and Belew...I mean his albums before that were great, but these ones are really top shelf: Low, "Heroes", and Lodger. Scary Monsters as well.

I like Let's Dance a lot, SRV plays lead guitar on most of it.

Everything after that is kind of "eh" for me. There's good songs here and there, and Heathen is a pretty good album, but it's never magical like his old stuff was.

Although to be honest I still haven't heard his final album, yet

 I am an enormous fan. Easily one of the most groundbreaking figures of the last fifty years of popular music, with boundless creative genius... great eccentric British icon.

I love the whole span of his work from Space Oddity right up to Black Star, but I especially love his Berlin period - and the transition therein represented by the Station to Station album. If pressed, I would say 'Station to Station' is my favourite Bowie song - closely followed by 'Blackout' from the Heroes album and 'The Bewlay Brothers' from Hunky Dory.

Just curious, what do you like of his from between 1983 and 2002?

I seem to recall Black Tie White Noise and Buddha of Suburbia being quite decent, but I haven't listened to anything from that period in a while. I have WTWN on CD, this thread has me thinking about putting it in the car

I don't know if I could choose a favorite song, or even a favorite album. There are so many different styles, sometimes it just depends on what mood I'm in. Right now, maybe Ashes to Ashes, Drive-in Saturday, Bring Me the Disco King...see? Already I want to list at least ten songs.
