John Lennon wasn't a flippin Aspie...

Okay...

How about me :-)

http://myspace.com/marktinley

I have played MIDI guitar (as the Pro Tools / sequencing operative and programmer) on five Duran Duran albums (the last one sold 2 million copies) and a Dandy Warhols record...

Do I count :-)

Hey, I also worked with Gary Numan (he is really lovely BTW)

I find that when I get on with people in the music industry really well, the are probably worthy of an Aspergers diagnosis.

Cheers

Mark

Thank you

I only just got recently how awesome it is.

I really struggled with anxiety and a whole load of other Aspie stuff to even get on the planes and the tour buses!

On reflection I am amazed at myself.

Sometimes as an Aspie it is hard to get the things we have done into context.

Anyone else only just noticed they did something cool for the last 17 years LOL

I read that Monkees multi-instrumentalist Peter Tork was diagnosed, and it turns up in some reported interviews, but looking at Wikipedia it's not there anymore...

Yes, myself. I'm not famous, but I have BA in jazz guitar. Actually, I've known a lot of jazz guitarist who had AS traits. Pat Metheny and Al Di Meola--neither I have met personally--both strike me as AS-ish, although I wouldn't claim either were Aspies.

Here's a relevant repost of a thread I started several months ago. (I'm too lazy to type and reiterate):

Posted: Thu Mar 05, 2009 6:52 am Post subject: Did Danny Gatton have Asperger's

Gatton was a DC area guitarist who committed suicide in 1994 at the age of 45 just when he was on the verge of making it big. He made for a very unlikely breakout artist; a short, pudgy middle-aged guy with a greasy pompadour. He had unusually stubby sausage fingers that jumped and skipped across the frets with impossible ease (if you've ever played a vintage Telecaster with 13s you would appreciate this). There are a couple of traits of his that strike me as suspect:

He had a life-long obsession with old cars and car parts and spent what little money he got from gigs buying lemons from the 1930s and other junk. He was as legendary a tinkerer as he was a guitarist.

Has never held down a real job longer than a few months his whole life

A self-taught natural talent who could not read a note of music but had perfect pitch and recall

He had a shy and reserved stage demeanor and never looked at the audience

Was a lefty but played right-handed

Classic introvert who spent all his teenage years alone playing guitar and working on cars

Let the responsibilities of managing his career, the bills, and life fall to his mother and wife.

I'm sure all artists have their idiosyncrasies so Gatton may not be that odd after all. However, I do think many of these traits kept him from becoming more successful. I recommend that people who like good Americana pick up any of his albums. Give him the exposure and recognition that he sorely needed in life.
