*sigh* Depeche Mode hasn't touched the charts here since the 80's. The only things mainstream here are Rap, bad Nu metal, and bad Pop singers.

What's wrong with NuMetal? And why does it matter what genre it is, if it's good music it's good music. Stupid genres :P

I was saying that the only songs from Nu Metal I hear on the radio are bad, not the genre itself. I don't bother with useless genre arguments.

Hmm... Rammstein would be refreshing to hear on the radio. The best rock music on the radio is 80's and 70's. And a suprisingly large number of people like them, they'd be mainstream if they got played a few times.

well as was said in the underrated thread, i believe Big Elf deserve a lot of attention. however, i believe they are one of those bands that prefer to be underground.

It's like some groups really should only have a selective audiences- like Selfish C*nt.
The charts in american look really complicated, and to be honest looks as though it really is unfair compared to our chart, where at least you do get some odditys in the top fourty.

Rammstein or Depeche Mode are hardly underground because they're quite established. Groups like Shellac should be heard in the mainstream.

metal fans diss numetal because its basically just heavy rock calling itself metal. we don't think of it as real metal at all. we don't hate it because it's popular... we just hate it because most of it IOO sucks. i do like some bands though like Nonpoint or early Mudvayne.

Avenged Sevenfold is pretty mainstream and i like them, so what.

I DONT HATE IT BECAUSE ITS POPULAR I HATE IT BECAUSE THE MUSIC SUCKS

I respect your opinions. I'm just telling you mine. I've read the history of metal and I agree that nu-metal isn't metal, but that's no reason why someone else can't like it. I really don't care what you call it. It's music that i either like or don't like.

Yes I understand why these metal people are upset about nu-metal, but whether you like it or not you have to accept it's existence. Whatever genre exists, someone's going to tamper with it, with people looking for new ways to be original.

What I'm saying is, fine you don't like it, but don't take it too far and put down people who do like some metal magazines encourage. Say what you like about the music, just don't take it too far.

I like some 'real' metal too, but I don't claim to be a metalhead, I don't pretend to know what it's about, I can only base it on my opinions on the particular songs. With all due respect to real metal bands, it's just not for me.

I'm getting the impression that the UK music scene completely trumps the one here, I should find a way to hear the Top 40 over there just for comparison. Rammstein is fairly popular amongst people I know, but is never on the radio; and hardly anyone's heard of Dpeche Mode.

Actually, Shellac is a band from Chicago. It's been the ongoing project of Music Producer Steve Albini since Big Black disbanded @ 1988-89.

The UK music market is a bit differant than the one here in the US as trends get noticed much faster, and therefore become more 'mainstream' than they do here due to the fact that it's a much smaller country than the US.

originallity is great, but if it sounds childish and watered down, then it's just not for me. however, i do like some genres that tend to be badly recorded on purpose.

Jandek. He's also possibly one of us.

Google him, the story is fascinating.

i've seen people talking about Jandek in chatrooms. never really got into it though. i've heard mixed opinions, as one half saying "he's a genious!" and the other half saying "it's slow and boring". so maybe i'll check it out, don't know.
