What Am I Even Supposed To Do To?
You have evidence that they agreed it was fine. They are in the wrong.
Do you have anything like a Citizens Advice charity in your country? Services like this will be able to advise you on your rights, and what steps to take next - that is if you want to take it further.
Well, I doubt it was personal, just a misunderstanding.
Long beards can be an issue in a lot of workplaces over here.
In all probability, the original guy made a mistake, that is all.
Just a guess. <shrug>
Absolutely no reason to attack me like that. To treat me like I’m some Internet troll or something. Uncalled for.
I’ve had to do things that went against my principles to keep my job.
I UNDERSTAND he doesn’t want to trim his beard. And I have my own take on it. I’m entitled to my opinion. I don’t deal with people like that. I don’t deserve to be dealt with like that.
I’m not trying to attack the guy. Or anyone.
Had this thread been in "The Haven", you would not be, but it isn't.
BTW, The Inquisitor might have had a case to get some compensation, and may still have one because he left his other job as a result of the misunderstanding. I think he should look into it even though I personally have a major problem with ppl who want to sue "at the drop of the hat".
Obviously, The Inquisitor doesn't have his solicitor's/lawyer's number on his number one dialling "button".

I used to have a longish beard but when I started trimming it even the other guys started commenting on it in a good way.
Not so "awkwardly Interjecting" here.
It is still my belief that women, and ppl in general, generally prefer a shorter styled beard than a long one, especially in a work environment.
Personally, I don't think the request to trim it was unreasonable.
The problem here is the misunderstanding that caused The Inquisitor to quit his job.
Surely "an ambulance chaser" lawyer would scramble to represent him.
I think it’s a ridiculous thing that they are expecting you to do. People should be able to do what they want to with their hair/facial hair.
This sort of thing in the workplace needs to stop. It’s crossing a line.

I get where the company is coming from. Even though I would never do anything like this, long facial hair could theoretically be used to smuggle chips and that sort of thing, and it's obviously not how they want to represent the company.
It's just very unfortunate that I was misled, and got excited about an opportunity and potential life that I am now having to grieve. This is really the worst case scenario.
I feel very demoralised, and I'm leaning towards not getting another job and letting my savings bleed out until such a time as I am able to end my life. I'm not motivated to get another s**t job just to supplement an existence I hate anyway. My dating difficulties are already overwhelming me emotionally, and this situation pretty much kills any minuscule chance I have at being able to date at this time.
I've dealt with this crap for too long. Even when things look like they're finally going to turn around, life slaps me in the face and knocks me to the ground. I'm in serious need of a lucky break. Otherwise the coming days are going to consist of me figuring out how I'm going to end my life. I think it's time I stopped talking about it and actually did it.
@Pepe: It's not always about the money. If a case like this won, it could make a difference.

I don't believe TGI is interested in becoming a political activist.
Perhaps TGI can klarify the situation?
In the US, he wouldn’t have a case. I don’t know about Australia.
We have a very uncool thing called “at-will employment.”
There are certain levels of expectation of physical appropriateness in most venues, here in Australia.
The casino involved has made it klear what its position is in regard to beards.
N.B. They do not ban beards. They simply require the beard to be trimmed.
The problem stems from a misunderstanding between those working in the company.

I don’t expect them to change their policy at my behest, but this shouldn't have happened to me. I'm very upset.

Seriously, it might be worth your while to talk to a lawyer.
You did quit your job because they said you have one with them and then reneged.
I'm really sorry about what happened TGI. I'm glad you left on principal. That's BS and I think you have a case against them.
Men and women with long hair may have to put it up or wear a hair net at some jobs, but I don't think they can be asked to cut it. Sikhs aren't required to shave, either.
I feel badly that you were so misled.

Please use your imagination to think of other possible jobs.
For example, if you happen to like dogs, and if you happen to live in or anywhere near a densely populated city, consider becoming a professional dog walker. Here in New York at least, professional dog-walking is actually a decent paying job.

I wasn't referring to the misunderstanding.
Hope you're ok, TGI.

I've never had to deal with lawyers before. I'd consider it, but I don't know where to start.

Thanks Issy, yeah it's really unfortunate, and it's absolutely not what I needed for my mental health
