@cyberdad

Your observation doesn't carry a lot of weight. Sorry.

When I was 18, I had a low average BMI and dated someone who was quite obese.

I'm not sure why you thought posting that picture was a good idea. It doesn't help your argument.

There is more to people than physical appearance.

My DD’s and I are not slim.

One grandmother was built like me when she married, but at the time that grandfather was rail thin.

The other was slim, but that grandfather was already fat.

My mom is left of slim.

Where is the like with like?

(You’ve got a year on me oh sage elder)

I'm not saying it never happens, It just happens to be uncommon.

And I’m saying it looks common from where I’m standing…..

Looking at the weddings my kids have been invited to over the last few years, there does not seem to be any pattern of height/weight combination among the couples.

Common religious beliefs do seem statistically significant…..

That's fine, I didn't expect agreement. If your personal dating history includes one person who didn't fit the "like attracted to like" observations I made then it doesn't turn the world upside down.

BTW Is this the only person you ever dated in your entire life? I am sure you have dated other men right

I have but not many.

I've also seen other couples who've come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They aren't as rare as you claim.

I'm basing my observation from being a male in my 20s/30s actively looking at a) what the competition was and b) who women were choosing to date. My observations were based on a specific need to (yes) I was actively looking.

Yeah I only tend to hear this from other women too. Strange it doesn't seem to reflect the world I see with my own eyes.

According to your profile you were in your 20/30s so was I. I was dating skinny guys, then I was married. My friends didn’t really conform to your theory either.

Apparently you lived in a ver6 different setting.

Perhaps you could find a picture of some men and identify the “dad bod” that might help us tailor our responses more accurately.

Which one is the dad bod?

Perhaps the issue here is that women apparently exist in a narrow range and men exist in only a more divergent set of either/or.

(My dad’s “bod” would be a significant shift to the right.)

Neither of those men is in my family or dating history, or the dating history of my daughters.

When I got married I was closer to the slim dude and it just so happens my wife was also slim. Since my daughter was born I am sort of right on the average for a male and my wife has naturally gained some weight but we are both in the healthy BMI.

Also, my mental image of standard dad bods is more like a couple of my coworkers, who would be on the left of guy on the right. - soft, but not yet to “beer belly” standards.
