When my husband becomes overwhelmed emotionally he goes into what he calls "Shut Down Mode." I want to be able to support him during these times but am just not sure what the right course of action is.
We are currently waiting on a referral to counselor but we all know how long that can take... Any suggestions?

Not sure what sort of suggestion you're looking for, you haven't really said what the problem is. Do you want to "fix" the shutdown? That's like trying to "fix" sleep. Shutting down is a natural process for some people. Same sort of idea as sleeping, you don't want to interfere with it if you value this person's health and sanity and your relationship with them. If he shuts down to avoid or block communication on some particular topic or topics, that's different. But you haven't said that.
